    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Workawayers would come in contact with rural Canadian farming community made up of diverse cultural groups, including Mètis, First Nation, Mennonite, European descended Canadians and more recently immigrated groups. Agricultural farms include ranching, grain & oil seed farming, as well as mixed family farms and smaller homesteads. The workawayer would be introduced to the rhythm of closely working with the natural cycles in a community where mutual support is a necessity. The interconnectedness of all life is an unmistakable element of daily life in this setting.

This is a great place to unwind from urban pressures and reconnect with Self and Nature. The Prarie skyscapes are always breathtakingly beautiful. The animals model presence and connection on a daily basis. There are many wild, uncultivated spaces to explore on the farm, and it is home to various species of wildlife. It is unadvisable to explore the woods solo but Nyejuru and Nazuba are willing companions and protectors should one wish to venture into the wilder spaces.

We can use all kinds of handyperson skills, especially woodwork & plant care. Love for animals is a must.

We prioritize providing as natural habitat and lifestyle as possible for each species with which we partner, and aim to treat each animal companion with dignity and respect.

Each day is different, although the animal care and feeding remains a constant. However, we do not limit ourselves to their physical care but also make an effort to meet their social and psychological needs.

We are in the process of adding to our animal family, beginning with hatching more chicks and exploring heritage breeds. More animals will be added in the Spring and Summer. This will necessitate assembling or building various shelters for them.

We get a fair amount of snow and it can get quite cold in the winter months. Appropriate winter wear is a necessity as snow clearing and other outdoor tasks still need to be done even on the coldest days. This is also the time when we try to catch up with various craft tasks and start various seeds for Spring planting. There is never a dull moment.

    Accommodation

Separate bedroom in the main house with a separate bathroom.

We eat a very clean, whole food diet by choice and necessity. Our dietary choices are limited by food sensitivities but we will happily share our meals and provide our guests with the means to cook additional dishes to add to the fare.

    What else ...

This is a truly rural location. The nearest town with shopping and facilities is 45 min away, and there is no public transit. So access to a vehicle would be helpful. Pickup from Regina, Brandon or Neepawa could be arranged.

Leisure activities are seasonally dependent, they include fishing, sailing, skating, hunting (with the proper permits), camping, golf, as well as various fairs and festivals.
