    Description

Hi, my name is Caroline, and I live with two cats, Tiger-Lily and Mimi. I am quite laid back and I am looking to welcome people to help me with various jobs. Those could include mending, gardening, building with recycled materials ( I am quite keen on reuse, up-cycle, recycle), painting but also reorganising rooms, obviously not all of that at once.

I am fairly extrovert, and love meeting new people, however, I need to say that I am not a morning person so we would most likely do bits and pieces in the afternoon, as and when, no stress. I am pretty flexible, no specific set times and I am quite respectful of people's personal space.

I am looking for workawayer(s) who will be self motivated, as sometime I need a little push to get me going.
I have a very practical mind and like finding solutions to help being more efficient. Whilst I am able to achieve this at work, at home is a different story as I get easily distracted and end up procrastinating, but I have noticed that when there are others around, I can be up and go.

Although I am quite particular in the way things should be done to achieve best efficiency without making work more complicated, I am happy to try new ways if they prove to be better over all. Life is all about learning from one another, right? ;-)
I truly believe nobody is ever too old to learn new things and I strongly disagree with the saying: "you can not teach an old dog new tricks", or in French, "ce n’est pas à un vieux singe qu’on apprend à faire des grimaces".

I love many things, I have experience in various fields, but my favourite is by far hot air ballooning. I have been in the world of ballooning on and off for 35 years mainly in the UK, and never get tired of it, although this is an activity that is not very common in France, there is a balloonist within 45mns from here.

I really enjoy sharing meal times, this to me is a very sociable event. In the summer months, we enjoy cooking on the campfire or even cooking pizzas in our bread oven. The possibilities are endless.
I consider cooking a sociable event, I find prepping the meals with others more enjoyable.

If you like board games, I do too. I have a few games at home and there is a centre culturel near by where it is possible to borrow books, board games, dvds, for free. From time to time, we share apero dinatoire and play board games with our neighbours.
I also enjoy playing ping pong, badminton too, which can be played at the sports centre in the village.
We have some gym/fitness equipment here, an indoor bicycle, weights, a bench, and a cable machine that my sons left behind and there are other type of gym equipment at the village sports hall.

About our place, we are a hamlet of three houses, set 2 minutes from the village and 10 minutes from the beautiful and picturesque medieval town of Josselin. If you love nature, our place is a little haven, the perfect place for switching off. There are loads of walks around and we are near a footpath/cycle path running along the famous canal Nantes-Brest.
Our village has a small convenient shop, cafes/bars, bakery, and various other amenities.
There are two restaurants near by; a creperie (16 mns walk) and a "Les Routiers" restaurant (30 mns walk) on the main road.

We have bicycles on site and public transport stop about 30mns walk from our place.

Re: travelling, nearest biggest international airport is Nantes (2 hours away from our place), the closest one is Rennes.
If you were to travel to Nantes, Paris or even Bordeaux, there are coach companies such as Flixbus and Blablacar to help make your way here.
The nearest Flixbus drop off from here is Ploermel, however there is also a drop off in Vannes, a little further away but I'd be happy to go and collect you from either those stops providing your arrival is not between the hours of midnight and 8am.

The public transport in the area is Breizhgo and the line is Rennes to Pontivy, our stop is La Fourchette.

One thing I must stress is, we are non smokers and would only welcome non smokers.

And finally, we can provide work footwear, scruffy clothes and gloves, and also beddings and towels, so you can travel light.

  • Help

    Help

We need help with all sorts, general maintenance, gardening, building/decorating, prepping and cooking meal. This summer (2025), other than the garden maintenance, and other odd tasks.

And from time to time, we also need people to pets and house sit when we go and visit family and friends, sometime for a minimum of a two weeks period, but for this I will update my profile when I have dates.

Having lived in the UK for over 35 years, and being a French native speaker, if you need to practice and/or improve your language skills, I will be more than happy to oblige. I used to work in a secondary school in the UK, specialised in foreign languages, so I do have a fair bit of practice in helping people to further their abilities to speak English and/or French.
