Hello! We are located in Taunggyi, Southern Shan State. We are running a 15-month Arts & Social Sciences College program with 30 youth from all over the country comprising of 3-4 religious groups as well as 15-18 different ethnic groups. Our students are involved in an alternative and holistic learning approach.
DIY and building projects
Help with Eco Projects
Our students are between 18-30 years old, thus similar ages of many volunteers, so volunteers would be able to spend time and share experiences from youth of Myanmar.
Our students are from various religions and ethnic groups, they come from all over the country, some from places foreigners are not allowed to go due to conflicts. This would be a great way for volunteers to learn about the real stories of the country outside the façade of the popular tourist destinations most foreigners go to.
Our students are eager to learn so if volunteers come as a teacher, volunteers will have the gratifying experience of helping other human beings with new skills and a better future.
Teaching, Sports (football), Gardening, Cooking, Language exchange, Mud house design & building
From May 2020 we are looking for volunteers with a passion to learn about Myanmar youth and the issues they face ... create friendship with them and exchange language and knowledge with having lunches and dinners together.
From May 2020 for our first term and the next cohort of students we are looking for someone who could teach art related courses (new ideas welcome) such as photography, photojournalism, dance, martial arts, drawing/painting, etc... for up to 14 weeks ... visa would be provided.
The accommodation is located on our school campus. Its free. It is a simple room with 2 beds. Toilets and shower are outside the room. There is a kitchen with all the necessities to cook (the school kitchen is also available to use for cooking). Pillows, blankets, tables and chairs are offered as well.
Taunggyi does not have many 'famous' sightseeing. However, it is surrounded by mountains and a beautiful countryside. If volunteers can ride a motorbike, we have plenty to borrow (or along with staff and/or students to drive you around) to visit outside of Taunggyi. Inle, Kalaw, Kakku, Loikaw, Hopone, Pekon and Pindaya are all under 3 hours drive and beautiful places to visit.
For simple relax time volunteers can go around the city with students, sitting in tea shops discussing about life and more. We also often have late night fires at the boys' hostel talking and playing music.
