    Description

Welcome to our family of five, plus our pup makes six. We live on 2.5 acres on the beautiful sunshine coast and feel lucky to call xwesam (Roberts Creek) our home. We are a short walk to the beach, live among the trees and have a self contained suite for our workawayer. Roberts Creek is a vibrant community and is located between the lovely communities of Gibson's and Sechelt. The Sunshine Coast is a 40 minute ferry ride to Vancouver making our rural life still accessible to any required city comforts.

Our family! We are Lindsay, Steve, Maya (9), Sylvie (7) and Brynn (5). Our three daughters have busy schedules with dance, soccer, fiddle, gymnastics, track and swimming outside of their school time. When they are not in an activity, our girls love to play at the beach, create dance shows, bake/cook, read, play basketball on our cul-de-sac, explore forests, be with their pals and generally enjoy life. Steve and I both work full-time outside the home; although Steve's schedule allows him to work from home when needed. Our pup, Rory, is a ten month old Australian labradoodle, full of love and does not shed.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live very close to the "heart of the creek" where there are many opportunities to volunteer at local farms or community events (one straw society, grounded acres, roberts creek hall). There are cultural experiences at the roberts creek hall (bands/events/farmers markets). Many opportunities within the shishalh nation; such as swiyaya days. Rogue festival is a music fest near our home. Art tours including the art crawl that happens in the fall. Many ceramic makers that offer classes, near our home, as well as equestrian opportunities. A dear friend of ours has a number of horses and there is opportunity there if of interest.

    Help

We are looking for support for our day to day lives. We love to adventure with our kiddos on the weekends, and spend a lot of time driving to and from school/activities during the week and therefore, we have little time for laundry, meal prep and house organization. We are looking for someone who is interested in being an extra person to be in our orbit for added help with any of the above.

Our dream would be to have someone who could pop up in the morning and drive or walk the girls to school. Pick up after school and drive to activities or spend time with them afterschool between 2:45-5 (likely walking to the general store, then to the beach, OR forest exploring or facilitating a playdate with one of their pals). Perhaps on some days the workawayer could help with house tidying and/or meal prep. Beyond the kiddo support we would just be grateful for anything to help us keep afloat. Our focus is spending time with our children and we find that there is always more to be done.

We would be happy to teach the workawayer anything about coastal living and they would be welcome to join us in any of it. We spend a lot of time on the beach for swims and bonfires, could teach about local hikes. In the house they would enhance skills of family living ex. cooking, and our daughters would certainly support them in learning to do handstands, and dance routines ;). Overall the right person would leave with feelings of support and connection from our family and an experience of supporting a happy big family who likes to enjoy life.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Basement suite in our home. Full kitchen, washroom, living room, bedroom and flex space. It is directly underneath our family home so guests will hear some family fun noises. Our home is on 2.5 acres of land, a combination of forest, grass and gardens.

We are open to having meals with the guest; however, due to our busy lives, we do not always know what the meal will be until we are rushing home from work and making it. We will supply groceries for the guest so they can also eat when they like in their suite. We are happy to work out any arrangement with our workawayer.

    What else ...

We live on a bus route that can easily transport you anywhere on the coast, including to the ferry if you choose to bus into Vancouver on days off, or up to powell river. If you have a drivers license you would have access to one of our vehicles for afterschool driving.
There are lots of fun hikes (from soames hill to tetrahedron park), over 100 beach accesses, local farmers markets, movie theatres, shopping etc.
