    Description

    Hi everybody!

We are Melia and Guylain, a french couple in our mid thirties living on an organic farm.
We have a very simple life and we enjoy fresh local food.

Our house is located on the dairy farm where Guylain works but no work will be involved in that area for the workawayer.

We both traveled a lot and Melia has done quite some volunteering too when younger. We want now to open our house to people from all over the world and share a bit about how we live.
We eat mostly organic, we have dry toilets (not only), like to have friends or family at the house sometimes, enjoy also quite moments. Most important is communication and respect so we can all be together and enjoy life!

Guylain is a farmer and works with cows and grows vegetables and cereales and Melia works in an organic shop closeby. Better if you don't mind doing tasks on your own most of the time. (depending on when you are coming). We will show you around how things work and sometimes you'll be on your own and sometimes we can do things together.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We both travelled a lot for studies and work and have now settled in the area. We love though cultural exchange, listening to music from all over the world, eating new dishes from far away... Melia has also been a workawayer mostly in Australia. We can speak engligh fluently, and also some spanish and portuguese (tiny bit of german).

We will share meals together, this is the time when we can enjoy a nice chat around good food.
We like to talk about the way we live and show people who are interested that things can be done 'differently'.

Please note it is important for us also to have some time as a couple. A mix of time all together (with workawayers, friends, family...) and sometimes just the two of us sounds like a good balance.

    Help

Now that spring has arrived we have a lot to do around the house and garden. Here are a few projects that we have in mind: refreshing a part of the house with some painting, removing carpeting, building a space for the new little chicks... We also have quite some work with the garden like weeding or mowing, taking care of the chickens (around 30) + 11 chicks that were just born beginning of May, two beautiful cats, a little dog...

We would enjoy hosting someone that has a bit of experience with volunteering and who can be a bit autonomous.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own private room on the first floor. There are 4 rooms upstairs but right now no one lives in them. Our housemate and hif family just moved out. You might be sharing the floor with sometimes another person (maybe family members, friends or a farm trainee but that is not very ofter). Don't worry people we know are always super respectful ;)
The bathroom with shower is also on this floor.

We live on the other side of the house.

Accomodation is quite simple, not hight tech or very modern but you should have everything you need. We will be happy to hear if you need anyhting anytime :)

We both lived in other peoples'house so we know how it can be like. Please let us know if we can help out with something :)

For food, we eat mostly fresh and organic products and sometimes meat.
We will provide 3 meals per day that we usually share together (except for breakfast as we have different schedules). We try to eat together as this is the moment where we can really exchange about life and how things are going for everybody. If it happens that the workawayer eats alone we will of course provide the food needed and show how the kitchen and pantry work.
We mostly eat vegetarian but do have some meat maybe once or twice a week. Organic food is quite important for us and we love eating home made dishes! Feel free to cook and share about your own culture if you like it!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in the Beaujolais area, famous for its wines. Mostly red but aloso white!

We are 40 minutes from Lyon by car or train and 20 minutes from Villefranche, the main city in the area. We live a bit secluded, so don't expect to go out to a bar at night, haha!

Lyon is not far away, (half an hour by train, and the train station is 15minutes drive). We could drop you off at the train station if you want to go and visit the city.

If you come to our place, it's better to like nature, animals, silence (even though we put music on very often).

We have a lot to do in our work and personal life so if you plan to go around or need someting special, it's always better to know a bit in advance.

Hiking and cycling are more the kind of activites you will find around here. On your time off, if the weather is nice, we have a pond where you can swim or go fishing. (we also have a little boat).

We have no wifi but when you are around the house we can share some internet from our phones.
