I’ve been sailing for more than 20 years around the Caribbean and crossed the Atlantic ocean twice. Now it’s been more than 5 years that I’m based in Portobelo, doing day tours.
Portobelo is a small town of Afro descendants on the Caribbean side of Panama. There are supermarkets, laundry, church, restaurants, pharmacy and everything you need.
Portobelo is also an historic port founded by Spanish in 1597. There are still fortresses from the Spanish time that you can visit.
What I love about this area is the nature, the forest is still pristine, and the landscape is super green.
This is also a good place for hikes and snorkelling.
I’m looking for someone that is interested in getting navigational and boat experience and ready to help on the boat, in exchange of accommodation, learning and tours payment.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation is on the boat. It will be a double cabin just for you.
Most of the time when there are no guests, you will be the only person living onboard. Sometimes Jenny the owner can be around.
I will be sleeping on my other boat anchored a couple of meters away from the catamaran.

At night there is no chance to go to land, so this experience is for independent people that are ok entertaining themselves watching something, reading, relaxing etc on the boat in the evening.

We don’t have WIFI aboard, but there is good signal in Portobelo, you can buy a local simcard and for 7$ / week you will have unlimited internet and a couple of gb for hotspot.

Strictly No visitors allowed on the boat.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Lunch is included during day tour, same menu as guests.

Sometimes when there are no tours, we may ask your help with some cleaning or assistance.
It goes without saying that since you will be living on the catamaran it will be your responsibility to clean and keep the space neat and tidy.
You can stay on the catamaran on days off too, but remember that you will be in charge of little tasks like putting oil in the toilet, refilling the water tank, ventilating the boat etc since you will be using the space.

During the days off we recommend you stay around Portobelo area, in case some tours may suddenly come up for the following day or you just make sure you’re back the day before the tour.

The possible activities are: snorkeling, hiking, kayak, explore the area etc.

In case you want to visit some places further away from Portobelo and you want specifically some free days off in a row, please let us know in advance so that we can plan around it.

This opportunity is not for Workawayers looking for much entertainment, socialising, nightlife, drinking, 'funsundays', etc...

We are looking for SERIOUS, RESPONSIBLE, OBEDIENT and MATURE people, that are interested in: the sea, local culture, tranquility, learning and helping.

It’s extremely important for us the observance of boat rules and captain’s instructions.

Finally, it’s also extremely crucial to make sure all boat tasks are completed first, before taking free time.
