    Description

    A COUNTRY REFUGE FOR TRAVELLERS.
    (Non turistic).

NOTICE: Pandemic, economic crisis and four years of drought has hit us hard. We are in the process of restoring many of the activities described in this site. We're therefore looking for real travellers, with time and commitment, with experience in any trade, ready to make a sensible contribution to our purpose. We will not profit from your work and time.

Un refugio rural para viajeros. (No turístico).

Rancha a is a cattle and agriculture ranch/farm.

The farm objective is to be self sustained. We already are in terms of water and partialy of food, and we are working towards energy independence. All work is related to these objectives. We don't profit from volunteers' work and everything we do is to make our lives and of future volunteers' lives more comfortable, more enjoyable, healthier and safer.

The ranch objective is to develop an echo friendly business to financially sustain the farm.

A four hour bus drive from Buenos Aires, three from Santa Fé/Paraná, two from Rosario, two hours from Fray Bentos, Uruguay, an hour from Gualeguaychú and 20 minutes from Urdinarrain. It is also 40 minutes away from Route 14, connecting Buenos Aires and Iguazú.

The building was made mostly from recycled old materials over twelve years ago. The style is a bit of a ranch, a bit of a loft, a bit of a (free) hostel.

Couchsurfers, motorbikers, travellers, workawayers, helpexers and other outcasts stop at our place to share good times of work, relaxing and nature. MINIMUM STAY IS 15 WORKING DAYS. THERE'S NO MAXIMUM
We have 3 rooms with 2 beds each. Bathroom is shared.

We have a cat, cows, horses,. Sacred frogs, foxes, eagles, owls, hares, possoms, otters and skunks, plus hundreds of small birds. Snakes are rare, as well as lizards, wildcats and water turtles. Lots of butterflies, flies, rarely mosquitoes, non poisonous spiders, bees and wasps. Some small and medium size fishes.

Smokers are welcome. Drinking is OK, drunking is not. No drugs & work. It is dangerous not to be at our full awareness when working with animals and power tools.

Activities include building, fencing, plowing, mowing, sowing, watering, ditching, horse riding, hiking, taking care of animals, growing vegetables, nursing trees, cutting wood, collecting edible mushrooms, sharing experiences with the locals, playing cards, singing, dancing and a lot of bread baking, fine cooking, house keeping and ranch facilities improvements and maintenance. Wall art and whatever you would like to do to contribute to the place improvement are welcome. We try to do everything as echo friendly as possible. Hunting and fishing at the ranch are allowed only for food.

There is no public transport from & to the ranch, but we can arrange a truck or a taxi, or you can hitchhike from Urdinarrain.

Most people and myself enjoy going to bed around midnight. Quiet hours start at 11 PM. Waking up with the sun is strongly recommended. There is plenty of good music, an open library, wifi Web and DirecTV. We have a good collection of classic movies, British detective series and a lot of Shakespeare. We love good football.

We have a pool, very appreciated in hot summer days and silver nights. Sun & moonrises, sun & moonsets, the Milky Way and wild storms are big breathtaking shows, best in summer.

Our water wells provide us with top quality drinking water from the Acuifero Guarani, one of the largest water reserves in the world.

We do have everything needed for a comfortable stay. Food is based on beef, poultry, pork, fish and vegetables, mostly Mediterranean style. We share our food.

We do have a voluntary and anonimous COOP FUND you are welcome to contribute to for food, drinks and for services (butane, electricity, wifi, etc.)
We try very hard to minimize waste of food and energy.

No time is too long if we all feel at ease. Sharing and caring rule. We strongly recommend you to leave your city habits behind and take your time to connect to and enjoy real country life. If you read all this please write "Huija!" in your WA request.

They will learn the difficulties of producing good food.
They might benefit of a change in the way the look at our civilization.
A word to Nature lovers. A farm/ranch is a frontier battlefield between man and Nature. We try to fight what is natural in the land to produce the food we want. We do it without cruelty and as echo wisely as possible. We respect wild animals and we give our domestic animals a good life and a good death. The experience may change the way you think about our role in this planet.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Over 1000 travellers have enjoyed our country life experience. Some come back again and again, and stay to recover enough to carry on with their journey. Some are amazed by what real argentine country life is about. The experience is unique, we share, we cooperate, we care.

Nature challenges our purposes on a daily basis, so we have to be always ready to improvise and resolve. Watching the always unique sun and moon rises and sets, the Milky Way, the furious storms, the inmense space, makes you feel you are here for some myterious purpose.

Guests with working experience in construction and farming are very welcome. Renovable energy projects experience is particularly welcome.

We do speak English and/or Spanish, English being used most of the time.

We do prefer travellers with time and no strict travel plans, longer stays and people who enjoy physical work.

Food is based on beef, poultry and vegetables.
