    Description

Our organisation was formed in the year 2014 after a divesting flood which destroyed the upper reaches of the Garhwal Himalaya in the north India state of Uttarakhand on June 16, 2013. Thousands of people died, infrastructure was destroyed, and the local economy shattered. Madanakini valley was worst hit by it. Hardly any village in the area was untouched by this monstrous disaster. Household lost their bread-earner, women were widow, agricultural land was destroyed and farm animals swept in the flood. The way of life which had sustained the area for generations had come to an end.

To restore the situation and generate livelihood, in the region we formed a group of 1500 women and trained them in spinning, weaving, knitting and organic spices cultivation to generate self-employment in the region. These women are now adapt in making yarn from sheep wool, hemp and other local fibers and now producing beautiful products to sell in the market. And also producing turmeric, ginger, garlic, chili and larg cardmom. With this traditional craft skills they are making beautiful stalls, waist coats, fabric and shawls. We are promoting self-sustaining hand-loom-based livelihood for disasters affected families and also link them to the mainstream market for sustainable income.

We want to take it to next level, so we need help of self-driven volunteers to help us in management. We need people who could help us in designing new products, its marketing & promotion.
