Hiya folks! My name is Lucy and I live on the campo, close to the beautiful village of Castril in NE Granada. I live in a large renovated four bedroom/two bathroom cortijo with two adjoining outbuildings, also some land. The property is located along a 4km track through olive groves and almond orchards, hence the name Cortijo la Huerta, 'The Orchard House.' The views are stunning in every direction and the wildlife, equally so (imagine your own private valley with daily birds of prey soaring above & below you). I'm semi off-grid, water from local source, solar power & have reliable, fast wi-fi.
My aim is to eventually get the main house up & running as a self-catering holiday let. I've been here 20 months, gave up my job in Edinburgh and adopted a gorgeous lazy Mastin right before Covid hit (great timing!) so am a little behind schedule to say the least. I recently built a sitooterie, have managed to demolish half the 2nd outbuilding, other building works have been delayed until later this year. Swimming pool on the backburner for now. The main house is now completed & fully furnished.
In terms of the area, all local amenities are only a short drive away. There are two National Parks (Castril y Cazorla) walking, trekking, mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching, a local outdoor pool and lakes, reservoirs, rivers for wild swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing. It's pretty special here.

I am of Scottish/Welsh heritage so English speaking with a somewhat erratic, intermediate understanding of Spanish, a constant source of amusement to the local shepherd, who occasionally pops by for a cuppa or beer & a bonfire with his 300 strong herd in tow. My main work experience is with children and teenagers in Additional Support Needs. There is a plethora of cultural activities for kids and adults alike in the surrounding villages here. Most of my books still reside in Scotland, but I have the beginnings of a decent sized library (photography, design, music, film, novels, poetry, language, history, maps, etc). Al fresco dining, sharing stories & laughs if you wish.
I don't drive (yet!), so having your own vehicle is a must. Help with clearing land/outbuildings of some rubbish/old furniture & disposing at local recycling dumps, the odd grocery shop, restoring a barrier, finish demolishing 3rd outbuilding & salvaging timber for reuse, carpentry, painting, possibly drystone wall/platform build, path building, gardening/constructing raised beds - beginnings of a vegetable patch. Generally, lots of random jobs, some little, some larger...3-5 hours daily work required.

Main house is 3 double bedrooms & one single. Two bathrooms - 1up/1down. Large kitchen and pantry. There is plenty space on paddock for parking or if you are a van dweller or camper and prefer the outdoors to sleep, then this is another option.

The last 500m of track is maximum 3m wide. I've had large construction vehicles here, so it's doable. Just no gargantuan motorhomes or buses.
I have a large Spanish Mastin/German Shepherd cross named Milson. He loves people and so far, good with other dogs. Not sure about cats.
