Description
We’re a small family with two young kids (4 and 6), and in January 2026 we made the big move from Germany to Costa Rica. It was something we had been dreaming about for a long time — a life that feels more connected, slower, and closer to nature.
Right now, we’re in the process of creating this place, a small and intimate retreat for people who want to slow down, reconnect, and spend time in a natural, peaceful environment.
Our builders are finishing up the last structures at the moment, while we, as a family, are focusing on growing a diverse food forest using permaculture principles. If everything goes as planned, we’re hoping to welcome our first guests by December 2026.
We feel incredibly grateful for this place and everything around it — the nearby beaches, waterfalls, and the amazing wildlife that surrounds us every day. It really is something special.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying with us is not just a typical work exchange. It’s more like stepping into a phase of life where a lot is still evolving — building something from scratch, figuring things out along the way, and getting deeply connected to the land.
We’re a German family who followed this idea of a different life and moved to Costa Rica at the beginning of 2026. And honestly, we’re still in the middle of the process ourselves — which is also what makes it interesting to share.
What this experience can look like:
• getting a feel for the “Pura Vida” way of life — not as something polished, but as something you slowly grow into. We’re learning every day from the people around us and the community here in Savegre, and you’d naturally be part of that
• being around while a food forest is taking shape. We’re working with permaculture principles, trying things, adjusting, learning as we go — so it’s less about “teaching” and more about sharing perspectives and ideas
• experiencing daily life as a family in nature. With two young kids, things are not always quiet or perfectly structured — but very real, and often quite beautiful in a simple way
• collaborating creatively. Since you’d be helping with our online presence, this part is very much about exchange — sharing ideas, talking things through (sometimes over a coconut), and learning from each other
Outside of the help itself, there’s also plenty of space to explore — waterfalls, beaches, small local spots. It’s a chance to experience Costa Rica in a more grounded, everyday way, a bit away from the typical tourist path.
Help
We’re currently looking for someone creative and proactive who enjoys working with social media and wants to help us grow our online presence in a meaningful way.
This isn’t just about uploading posts every now and then. We’re hoping to find someone who has a good eye for storytelling, understands how content works, and likes to bring in their own ideas.
What this could look like in daily life (around 4 hours per day):
• capturing little moments around the finca and turning them into short videos (Reels / TikTok style) that feel real and not overly staged
• taking care of our Instagram — writing captions, posting, replying to messages and comments
• helping us figure out a visual style and tone that actually feels like us (this part is still evolving)
• supporting us with basic SEO so people can find us more easily online
• and also taking photos here and there — of the land, the process, and what daily life looks like
We’re not looking for perfection. It’s more about someone who enjoys the process, brings creativity, and feels connected to what we’re building here.
And if you’re interested, there’s also the chance to learn more about tropical permaculture and how we’re creating a food forest on the land.

Accommodation
This wouldn’t just be a place for you to stay — it’s more like your own little creative space in the middle of the jungle.
In exchange for your help, you’d have full use of our brand-new Jungle Studio. It’s a space we’ve put a lot of thought into, trying to combine simple comfort with the feeling of being really close to nature.
A few things about the space:
• the design is a bit unique — an elevated A-frame style cabin, which gives you a really nice view into the trees
• there’s a large wooden deck wrapping around the studio, with space to sit, have coffee in the morning, do yoga, or just work outside when you feel like it
• the front and loft area are mostly glass, so there’s a lot of natural light throughout the day and you’re pretty much always surrounded by greenery
• the sleeping area is up in a cozy loft, which makes the whole place feel open but still comfortable
• downstairs there’s a simple workspace with a desk, plus a sitting area to relax
• you’ll also have your own bathroom and a small kitchenette, so you’re fully independent
The studio itself is set a bit apart on the land, surrounded by trees, but still just a short walk from where we live and where the food forest is growing. So you get both — quiet space when you want to focus, and connection when you feel like it.
For us, it’s a really special place, and we think it’s a nice way to spend a couple of months — especially if you enjoy nature, a bit of simplicity, and having space to be creative.
The workawayer can chose to have shared meals with our family. We always provide fresh and healthy Food. It is also possible for the workawayer to cook his/her own meal because the accommondation also has a kitchen. In this case we will provide the groceries.
