Hello! I'm Claire from the sunny city of Singapore!

I'm 28 years young, fluent in English and conversational in Mandarin (:

I'm friendly, approachable, open-minded and always down for an adventure!

Job-wise, I'm a teacher and have taught children from 2-12 years old in both public schools and private settings. I have also taught middle-aged immigrant housewives English. I love children and people in general! (:

Most of my weekends are spent out in the sun playing beach volleyball. I love being active and spending time outdoors. I also do enjoy reading, painting, singing and dancing like no-one's watching~

I'm also a hugeeee animal lover and have volunteered at a dog shelter in the past for 6+ years, mainly helping to care for and rehabilitate stray dogs. Recently I've been helping out at a local cat shelter to help socialize stray cats. Dogs & cats aside, I love ALL animals, bugs, lizards, frogs, spiders included ;D

Current goal in life: to CREATE more and consume less!

So why am I on workaway?

Having lived in a fast-paced city for the past 28 years, I yearn to experience life away from towering concrete buildings, endless overconsumption cycles and the constant chase for money and status.

I wish to surround myself in nature, connect with animals and plants, and live a simple life that respects my surroundings. I want to see what its like living somewhere that appreciates hard work and labour!

I want to gain life skills and be useful with my hands - to build, repair, maintain, plant, care for and cook. It is my dream to learn how to care for animals like cows, sheep, horses etc. (and to learn everything else that comes along with it, be it gardening, building a fence, shoveling poop, chopping wood, etc.) It would also be a bonus if I could learn how to grow and harvest food as I have been eating imported food my whole life!

I have a lot of experience with children, so happy to do any child-minding or babysitting!

I also do not mind doing housework such as tidying, cleaning or organizing. It gives me great satisfaction to organize shelves~

Coming from a small, dense city, I may not have a lot of experience in farm work, but I am generally fit and extremely eager to learn as long as you are willing to teach! I don't mind getting dirty, working in the heat and not being able to use my phone for long hours (in fact, sometimes, I long to be as far from my phone as possible haha).
