Immersing myself into local lifestyle, helping good causes and learning some lifelong skills, all while exploring the cultural and geographical richness of California.

Beschreibung

Hello, I am travelling from the UK to California for 4 weeks in February. As part of my trip I would like to spend a week on a workaway, to help fund my journey through the state, and to immerse myself into its real communities. On my placement I hope to help towards a good cause and to learn good lifelong skills, while pairing this with an exploration of the cultural and geographical richness of California.

There are many different roles that excite me and I am open to any offers of work. I am fairy tech savvy, with education and work-experience as a physicist. I would however prefer a break from technology, and to immerse my self into natural and holistic ways of living. I would especially love to work within nature, and along side someone with knowledge and closeness with nature. Such as in; permaculture and organic farming, foraging, fermenting, conservation and ecology. I would also love to learn homesteading practices and how to live off-grid.

I have many interests and hobbies. I love to walk, run, cycle and swim, especially in woodlands and amongst mountains, lakes and rivers. I am a musician, I play a few instruments and like to jam with friends. I also write my own music.

I have a passion for learning, both intellectually and practically, whether that's academic, such as math and linguistics, or real-life, like fermenting, hiking and wild-camping. I also have an interest in learning the teachings of the world's religions, and implementing their practices into my life. I am teaching myself the Sanskrit language because I enjoy chanting sutras.

As a profession I am currently working as a researcher in optical physics and for the past few years I have been conducting experiments towards a PhD. On my latest project I am developing a technology to image latent fungi in soft fruits. These are hyphae structures close to the skin that are ready to grow but are not yet visible to the human eye.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am kind, I make friends well, I communicate well and I listen to instructions. I am always keen to learn and to help towards a good cause, and to improve myself and and the wellbeing of those around me. Perhaps my strongest skill is my ability to learn and to apply myself.

I studied physics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For the last few years I have been conducting experiments in optical physics, working towards a PhD. This involves working with cameras and light sources, and delicately arranging lenses, prisms and fibers.

While highly specialized, the lessons learnt are transferable. I have a strong ability in problem solving, in creating solutions and in generating new ideas. I am also a good musician, and I thrive on creating music and writing songs.

Was noch ...

I am very interested in philosophy and religion. I read in my spare time and write my own musings. I like to gain wisdom and good health from implementing practices across different schools of thought. I am particularly interested in the Vedic teachings expressed in the language of Sanskrit, and in the ancient mythologies of my home country of Wales.
