Hello there !

My name is Gabriel, I'm 24 and I am from Paris.

I have worked during six years as a social worker, in a childcare center and with people suffering from substances use disorders.

I have decided to take a big break, to explore new environmnents and to improve my skills with other tasks/jobs.

I'm very curious and motivated, even when I'm getting out of my comfort zone.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join our family farm and ...)

Hello everyone,
I'm writting this review, due to the bad ones I've seen recently on Dhurba & Serita profile.

I spent two months in Phaskot with all the family over there. I met wonderful, outstanding people during this time. Staying with them is not only about giving help for farming. It's also about understanding their stories and living … read more conditions. This experience requires a minimum of empathy, which I think some people couldn't manage to find during their time at the farm (that's really sad).

The family lost many things after the 2015 earthquake and after covid. They have a lot of work to do everyday, and they don't sell any organic food because they need it to live decently. Therefore, they can't save money. The only income they may have would be mostly from your daily contribution. That contribution is crucial, as they don't own directly the house they are actually living in. Without this daily contribution, they could end up homeless at any time if they don't have enough to pay and that the owner decides to take back the house.

However, they cook some delicious food, depending on the remaining supplies. This means that some mornings, you may have eggs and some others, toasted bread with jam. You will also eat a lot of rice, vegetables and potatoes, as it's mostly what the family grows during the year. I've personnaly loved the food (and most of the workawayers, around 30 in two months, also did).

This place is not an hostel, but a farmstay with a family. Please note that there's a difference. The family is doing its best but may also be tired some days.

The rooms are really nice, spacious, and the beds are comfortable. The shower is a cold one, but you can have some hot showers in the main house if a cold one is too challenging for you.
I also think it's a shame that some workawayers dare to criticize the hygienic conditions of some bedrooms. In my opinion, this is the workawayers responsability, who are supposed to be respectful and clean the room during their time and when they leave. I've seen some clean people, but also dirty ones who didn't make any effort. These people are the problem, not the family. So please, don't blame them.

I could speak hours about my time in Phaskot, but I will try to stay concise. If you are truly motivated to make authentic human experiences, and also prepared to face the daily-life reality in a Nepali's countryside family, I think that you should take that opportunity.
