Hi! To whoever is reading this, let me use this space to introduce myself.

I'm a digital nomad who recently started exiting the matrix and is learning to connect with the "real" world - that is, connect with nature, learn about eco-living, and learn new skills outside the real of the computing world. So far my journey has been successful, and I'm looking to spend the rest of summer (August/September) doing more volunteering before searching for a paid job around Berlin.

My skills / what I offer:

* Dedication to good work, attention for detail, high standards
* Years of experience with Linux, system administration, programming, etc
* Willingness to learn anything new, ability to learn quickly
* Great sense of humor, balanced with calm, pragmatic, patient personality
* An intensely quirky and unique history to share (see below)
* Fantastic at staying neutral in times of great conflict

I'm open to almost any kind of work, but the below are those that I've actively done and have gotten good feedback for:

* Most IT work. Strengths are in software, communications and security.
* Hospitality, hosting, receptionist and administration work.
* Physical gruntwork of any kind. I'm surprisingly strong.
* Basic gardening and animal care (would love to learn more!)
* Writing: technical, fictional and organizational

Some weird/unusual things about me:

* Early stage transgender. I embrace a more feminine energy and like to be one of the girls.
* Extremely privacy conscious and mindful of security, online and in the field.
* Nudist. When appropriate and with permission, I like to work, eat and live in the nude.

My most recent experience was a two month stay at a yoga/holistic community in the Netherlands. Here I mostly helped with cleaning and other maintenance work, and I became an important piece in helping people come together and communicate more effectively. It's hard to summarize exactly what I did as it was more or less all over the place, but I've received continuous feedback that I set an excellent example and that I contribute much to the general health of the community. Mostly it meant handling conflict, getting people together for fire circle talks, and organizing fun events that brought people together.

At this time I'm open for nearly all volunteering work, my main concerns are that food is provided or there is a cheap supermarket nearby (I'm on a budget) and that I can have a private corner with good internet so I can plug in and work on my personal projects in my free time.

My core technical skills lie in the IT sphere - I can do software (desktop, backend, frontend, etc), system administration, crypto, and so on. I'm also excellent at communication and handling conflict. Plus, several years of working in helpdesk means my "soft skills" are unmatched. I believe that I'm intelligent enough to learn anything new, so I'm looking forward to working with others on work that I haven't had opportunity to experience yet. :)

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Become a part of a non-profit ...)

I stayed at this place for a full two months, and it was one hell of an experience. Some context: I come from an IT background, started traveling this year, this is my first time in a community. I have many things to say, some negative and many positives. I'll go over the negatives first so I can gush about the positives for however long I… read more want.

My main two concerns tie into each other. One is that getting hands on food was a bit tricky if you don't have a lot of experience with cooking. The second issue is that, if you don't have a car, you're kind of stuck in this place and have to rely on the kindness of others. Food for volunteers works by stocking a shared kitchen full of ingredients so that people can do with it whatever they want. This would work for most people but it was an issue for me, on account of having a vastly different culinary background, not at all compatible with the vegan/bio approach here. This could be solved by me simply buying my own food, but this is where we run into the second issue. If you don't have a car, it's difficult to actually get anywhere. There are no bus or train lines going to this place, you need to have a car or at least a bike. I had neither, so I had to keep relying on other people to hitch a ride or borrow a vehicle. For social folks this, again, won't be much of a problem, but for me it was a bit tricky because I'm an introvert who spends most of her time in her room.

These two things only really affected me, I don't think anyone else had issues with this. The one thing that is likely to affect future volunteers is how unstable the place can be at times. There was a lot of conflict between people from start to finish, much back-and-forth fighting in public, a lot of drain of energy. The place was, at the time I was there, lacking a strong foundation and communication was generally poor. I've seen two people actually being kicked out, and a handful of volunteers left willingly because they were just kind of left to their own devices with very little guidance. Thankfully, for the last two-three weeks of my stay this was very much on a path of improvement... which brings me to all the positive feedback!

The people here are amazing! I'm normally a very introverted type who spends eight hours a day behind a laptop, but here I would come out of my room just to hang out with people I enjoyed spending time with. I don't think there was a single person on the property that I didn't like; while I had my favorites, every individual I met was a beautiful soul who had amazing wisdom and energy to share. Oh, what's that, I'm talking about energies and all this yoga voodoo nonsense? That's because this is the only place I've been in where I could actually feel people connecting and being amazing. There's also a surprising variety of personalities here. Closest to me where a non-binary joker who could not only keep up with but also defeat me in my own dirty and dark jokes, and a woman who was capable of feeling a thousand things at once, go completely crazy, and somehow still speak the most sense of any of us. There's the lady who runs the farm and is just nothing but encouragement and love, giving each animal more love than I've ever given all of my pets - combined. There's the resident yoga specialist who has taught me that my body could take shapes and balance in ways I didn't think were possible. There's the family of four where the husband has such deep insight into the human psyche and was so willing to share it that he could very well speak on stage at a university. There's the mother who balances two highly energetic and dependent kids and yet has always had time for a smile. There's a quiet hermit character whom you might not even run into, but has an ability to make you connect to love and to yourself enough that I've seen people actually come back from depression after a session with him. I'm probably forgetting some people, there were quite a few folks present. Suffice to say, you're missing out by not meeting these lovely folks.

They're intensely open minded too! There were always things about myself that I was afraid to share with others, like my interest in nudism, my conflicting transgender journey, some deep fears. In this community, I've found an audience that not just listens, but has wonderful things to share. I feel like I actually became a better person during my stay here, despite not even believing in energies and chakras and all that. This willingness to help, and to receive help, is I think also part of the reason that the place is bouncing back to be the best it can be.

The property is a lovely place to be. It being far away from everything also means it's quiet. You can see the stars at night. You can see animal life just... existing, not just from the farm but also a very active ecosystem in the forest. Forest? Yes, the place is adjacent to enough green that you can actually go for hikes in it. It's probably the most nature I've seen since arriving in the Netherlands.

When I arrived, I only planned to stay a week or two, just enough to take care of some personal business and then move on with my journey. I ended up staying effectively four times as long because I had such a wonderful time. Some issues and trouble notwithstanding, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone. :)
