Saori was a delightful person and she fitted in to our small household beautifully. Very easy going and willing to help with all jobs. We did lots of gardening, digging etc and got nice and grubby. Hauled some wood about... She even had a (successful) go at splitting some! She insisted doing dishes each night which was fabulous and she cooked us some fantastic Japanese dishes! We hope Saori will visit us again and we wish her all the best for her future travels!

Riccardo accompanied us throughout the entire season from May to September. That alone speaks volumes about how satisfied we were. You are very easygoing and willing to do any job. It was a wonderful summer and it was great to have you here, not to mention the Italian food, molto bene! We wish you wonderful experiences and good luck on your future travels and all your plans.

I spent a week with Alicia at the start of the month (sep 2025), it was one of my first stops on my Europe-backpacking-venture and my very first Workaway experience. This stay still stands as a highlight for my solo travel. Alicia and I spent much time conversing, polishing her English and becoming good friends in the meantime. The work was light yet very enjoyable; spending a couple of hours each day in the garden, picking fruit, or attending tasks around the house. When the work was finished I was given plenty of time to myself, exploring the beautiful rural countryside by foot and/or bike (which was graciously provided by Alicia). I felt incorporated into Alicia’s lifestyle for the short time I was staying with her. Attending social events and meeting local friends and family. I’m very grateful for Alicia’s hospitality and company. I was sad to say goodbye - I hope we meet again! Mitch.

I had an amazing time with this family! They are super down-to-earth, relaxed, and made me feel very welcome from the start. The tasks were always clearly explained, and I really enjoyed helping out. I spent 2.5 weeks here, and the time went by so quickly — I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun! Huge greetings to you guys! . Hope to see you again soon!

Selin and her partner Nathanael came to cat and house sit for a week. They looked after my animals very well and they also did some work on the barn while I was away which was great. I would recommend them both as pet sitters and house sitters and would be happy to have them return if I needed pet sitters again. Thanks guys for taking care of them.

Noé came to us in early July 2025 with his two friends, Zac and Baptiste. Initially, the plan was for them to come just for one week to pick up about a kilometre of large, old hardwood fence posts from our smaller farm, cart them all back to our principal farm, and chop them up into manageable firewood. What ended up happening was that they finished this job in lightning speed, including immaculately cleaning out the old woodshed and stacking their chopped wood as if it were an art installation. By the end of the week, it was quite clear that we didn’t want them to go anywhere, and they, thankfully, didn’t want to leave. They ended up staying with us for three wonderful, seriously fun and highly productive months throughout winter (with fires burning every night and wood stores continuously restocked) and into spring. Turning to Noé specifically: Noé is a beautifully mannered, well brought-up, polite, hard-working and mature young man. He’s an absolute delight to have around. He arrived speaking a beginner level of English but is returning to France with a rock-solid understanding of everything that is said and an intermediate to advanced level of communication. I think this is largely due to his love of conversation and storytelling (and he’s a great and very entertaining storyteller). Some of his other jobs during his time here included: repairing panelling on one of our worksheds; replacing hinges on a door in the garden shed; cleaning my car inside and out; moving a huge number of boxes and pieces of furniture to storerooms (including up and down very steep staircases); bringing all the contents of the barn at our smaller property to the barn at our principal property; taking a ute load of wood to our beach house and stacking it; then dead-heading all of the protea bushes in our garden there and bringing them back to the burn pile on the farm; clearing the working farmyard and building/burning a bonfire there; catching and releasing a possum that was up in the roof; and taking numerous rubbish bins to the local transfer station once a week. Then, on top of all of these time-consuming and extremely helpful tasks, probably the two greatest gifts Noé gave us were: 1) Using his advanced carpentry skills to completely renovate an old bedroom with an existing but decommissioned ensuite (now known as The Frenchies’ Room). One thing our old homestead is short on is bathrooms, so we now have a completed, stunning guest bedroom with a feature wood-panelled wall and matching ensuite cabinetry, a new mantelpiece, new bathroom fittings, an immaculate paint job, plush carpet, and the bed moved in — making it fully functional just a day before the boys went home to France. 2) Transforming what had always been the old attic and roof access space into a beautiful living room with a mezzanine bedroom. It’s truly incredible. Fully insulated, with repurposed old Victorian hinges on cleverly designed door hatches for continued roof access, the space is now lined with wooden panelling. It has a built-in staircase up to the mezzanine bedroom area, a feature wall to match that of the renovated bedroom downstairs, and well over a hundred years of dust washed away, resulting in a warm, cosy, self-contained area that’s worthy of a magazine spread. Noé is, without a doubt, a perfectionist with an excellent work ethic. To add to his brilliance, he is also a talented artist and drew us a beautiful picture, which we’ve had framed, and it will hang in The Frenchies’ Room. He also sings beautifully, and we were regularly serenaded in the evenings, in front of the roaring fire, with Baptiste playing the guitar. And he plays a mighty fine game of Rummikub. So, basically, Noé is totally awesome — and if you are reading this review because he has applied for a position with you, just say yes. You’d be completely crazy not to! We are sincerely going to miss all three fabulous Frenchmen. They’re the best and will always have a place to call home here with us. I know we’ll see each other again. Thank you so much, Noé, for all of your hard work — we’ll miss you. x

Emilia stayed with us for almost three weeks and brought a lot of laughter and joy to the farm. She is a cheerful and independent character who loves to share stories from her life and is always eager to try new things. She was very helpful, enjoys cooking, and with her creative – sometimes a bit creative, but then again very organized – way, she brought a lively spirit into the house. She often got up early, writing notes while enjoying the company of the cats. Together we dried a lot of fruit, cleared meadows, tended the garden, and with Merle she helped the trees to grow strong and healthy. Her guitar playing was, much like her, also a real gift – subtle, heartwarming, and always wonderful to hear. I truly hope Emilia will continue to travel widely, meet many people, cultures, and places, and spread as much joy as she did here.

Garance stayed with us for 2 weeks on her first Workaway and quickly settled into the house and routine. She is a warm, funny young woman and I enjoyed getting to know her and our chats over many of our dinners. Along with our other Workawayer Garance tackled dismantling raised beds, planting shrubs, clearing the farm shed no job was too much trouble and they both had fun learning all about hens - and collecting their eggs from grumpy hens 😀 Garance was super with our dogs and is a total cat lover, much to Finn our kittens delight. She was a pleasure to host and the time flew by so quickly. I would happily recommend Garance to any hosts. Enjoy the rest of your travels!!

A unique family and an unforgettable experience. That’s how we would describe the four months we spent with Mickey and her family. From the very first day, they were incredibly supportive and helped us so much during our first period in Australia. We can only say thank you! From Mickey and Steve, we learned so many things, and above all, we learned new values that we will always carry with us. The tasks to be done at home were varied and different, such as cleaning and organizing some areas of the wonderful house that hosted us. Other tasks required more energy but brought rewarding results and made us feel like part of the family. We will also never forget the morning walks with their dogs. We will always remember these moments spent with Mickey and Steve’s family. Max & Julia

Mike was very welcoming and made us feel at home right away. So did his dog Billy, he's very friendly and you're gonna love him. We had flexible working hours which was very cool. Most of the work we did without Mike, he gave us instructions and went to work in his office for a majority of the time. That gave us workawayers the opportunity to really connect and have fun together while working. Sometimes the work was a little physically demanding but it was amazing to see all the progress we've made during our 2 weeks. Mike always made sure that we had everything we needed and that the fridge was stocked. He even cooked us dinner a few times, when none of us wanted to cook :) .....Mikes house is really cool and he has a big living room/kitchen which was ideal to hang out together and watch some movies. He also owns a sunny deck which is perfect for yoga. Overall I enjoyed my stay at Mikes a lot and had a lot of fun connecting with all the other workawayers from all around 😊

I never imagined I would make an experience like this, and I am very happy about it. The beginning was not easy; adapting to a new environment and school routine forced me to bring out the best in myself. This experience is not only about helping children improve their English language skills, but above all about finding the key that allows them to learn while having fun in their own personal way. I also had the opportunity to attend a teacher's retirement ceremony, which was a special moment where I was able to wear traditional Thai clothes and watch dances and honours. The relationship with the teachers was also fantastic. There is good collaboration between them, and being part of this group makes you feel at home. The private room accommodation and the scooter at my disposal were essential. I recommend this experience to everyone. Being a teacher means looking at the future in the eyes of your students.

Vittoria and Antonio, two beautiful souls, welcomed me as if I were part of their family, with a generosity that warms the heart. Their presence is rooted in this land like the carob trees that surround it. In every gesture, in every word, they convey an ancient wisdom lovingly passed down through generations. I’ve learned so much from them—not only about traditions, cultivation, and respect for nature—but also about the value of listening, patience, and care. I am deeply grateful to have crossed paths with them.

Anina and Jana stayed with us for two weeks and helped with all the chores on the Finca. They were both hardworking and pleasant young women with good communication skills. They also cooked for all of us, learned to take care of the horses and goats and enjoyed exploring the beautiful surroundings. They climbed Roques de Benets and found nice swimming spots in the river. We wish them succes with their respective job and studies

It was a pleasure getting to know Emma and having her dog-sit for two weeks while we were away. She quickly proved able to understand instructions and to adapt to the dogs’ daily rhythm. Her communication skills and maturity gave us complete confidence that we were leaving the dogs in the right hands. Although Emma’s main task was dog-sitting, she showed natural qualities and skills that would make her a valued volunteer in various settings. She is an outgoing and observant person who takes at heart what she does. We would be happy to host her again in the future and warmly recommend her to any host.

Volunteering at the hostel is always bit more demanding in the high season and Camille was the perfect person to help us during that time. Cleaning, helping at the reception, you name it, she was great in everything. The best thing though was her desire to learn everything about Veliko Tarnovo so she can give better information to the guests. As I said, the perfect volunteer for the high energy of the summer :)

I spent one month with Dakota and it was a wonderful experience. She is incredibly kind, caring, and very talented – I learned so many things from her. This was my first Workaway experience, so at first I was a little impatient and nervous. But when I met Dakota, I immediately felt at home. She has such a warm energy that makes you feel comfortable right away. Everyone around her is truly lucky 🍀 We used to run together in the mornings and worked on improving our diet. Her kitchen is always full of a variety of delicious food, and she is very generous when it comes to shopping. Dakota is skilled in so many areas – painting, gardening, and even renovating tools. She also has the most beautiful wooden house, which is really inspiring to see. I would definitely love to return again and I highly recommend her place to anyone. You will never regret it! Thank you so much dear Dakota 🤍

Martine stayed with us for three weeks and brought a lot of warmth and good vibes. She is super friendly, fun to be around, and our twelve-year-old son really enjoyed spending time with her. For work, it is important that both tasks and working hours are very clear and well-structured. Martine works at her own pace and is not the fastest, but with precise instructions she gets the job done and doesn’t give up – even if something needs to be redone, she tries again with a positive attitude. She helped us a lot by preparing beans for the winter and cooking delicious quince jam. We are thankful for the fun time together – and of course for the Danish evening! All the best on your journey!

My experience volunteering here was wonderful! I stayed for little less than four weeks and enjoyed every bit. I was welcomed right away and the place felt like home ever since. Jennifer is an amazing host and was very flexible with the schedules. I found the amount of work per week very good. In the mornings I would teach English at the school with the other volunteers and later help the kids at the academy with homework or something else. Everyday was different which I really enjoyed. During our free time we explored Quillabamba and surrounding areas with the other volunteers. The nature around is beautiful and the town itself has a lot offer as well. I would recommend this program for anyone who enjoys being around children and wants an authentic experience by making a difference in the community! Thank you Jennifer for having me and all the best in the future!
