I recently spent an incredible two weeks with Marta, Michal, and their lovely children on their property in Greece. I don't have enough good things to say about my time there! Their property is one of the most peaceful places I've ever been, with an orchard and veggie plots and hammocks. Their family is warm and open-minded, and invited me so graciously into their home. Their home is full of laughter, piano, singing, delicious healthy meals and homemade herbal teas. Mia, Elio, and Saša are truly delightful and inspiring children: they are free-spirited and full of light and spend their days running around barefoot, picking edible flowers, racing paper boats in the river, reading voraciously, and singing around the piano. Two weeks in their company was good for the heart and soul, to say the least. Other than Mia, who speaks a bit of English, the other two don't speak any, so I dusted off some rusty Italian and communicated between that and lots of hand gestures and smiles. Marta and Michal speak wonderful English and I was grateful for their warm company and interesting conversations over meals. In terms of work, I was mostly helping out in the garden, building new garden beds and planting lots of tomatoes! This was hard work but lots of fun, especially when the kids came to lend a hand! Otherwise, I helped Mia with her English, prepared some meals, and went on some funny adventures to pick up stones from the river or wine waste for mulching from the local winery. Anytime we left Seliana, we came back with a trunk full of something, and with a great adventure along the way. Marta and Michal are passionate and inspired parents, and it was a joy to help them with their project of creating a beautiful haven for their family! I was delighted to discover a whole community around Seliana of people working on varied permaculture projects. I met some remarkable people and enjoyed hikes, dinners, and a birthday party. I'd recommend this experience to anyone! Thank you :D

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Zheng with us for one month, and we couldn’t have asked for a better volunteer. Despite being so young, Zheng showed incredible maturity, responsibility, and work ethic every single day. Zheng was always reliable, quick to learn, and brought such positive energy to the hostel. Guests loved him, and he handled every task with care and a smile. He truly became part of our team and our little hostel family. We are so grateful for all his help and we will miss him a lot. Any hostel would be lucky to have Zheng. Our door is always open for him to come back anytime. Highly, highly recommended! Marina & Viktor

Hello, dear Deziré, wonderful to have you here! There was always something to talk about and share. For you it was the first time to try this workaway experience to lend a hand, as you want to become a host as well. I think it is worthwhile to feel the other person's role and feelings. You also took the chance to travel a lot to see a lot from Germany, mainly around the very middle of Germany. The next workawayer after you tried, what you took up here: the Parkrun. Amazing, your influence! As a workaway host, I want to offer you to keep in touch. You started to learn about finding good people to contribute to a good way of living together, and how to organize that. Maybe, we can share experiences in organizing or whatever will come up... C'était juste parfait. Facile, agréable, efficace, et bien sympathique comme échange. Je recommande Jasmin qui est une personne courageuse, discrète, respectueuse qui s'adapte très bien aux différentes tâches proposées, même celles qu'elle découvre. Et sa compagnie est des plus agréable, ouverte à différentes discussions. J'ai adoré son côté naturel.

Roy stayed with us for two months, and having him here was a truly great experience from start to finish. He is an incredibly **active and productive person**, always ready to jump into any task with energy and a positive attitude. Whether it was physical work, problem-solving, or daily tasks, he approached everything in a very **hands-on and practical way**, which made a huge difference for our project. Roy proved to be extremely reliable and trustworthy. You could always count on him—he was consistently on time, well-organised, and brought a steady, focused presence to the work. At the same time, he was always in a good mood, which made working together easy and enjoyable. Beyond the work, Roy was also great fun to have around. It was always a pleasure to spend time together, and there were plenty of laughs—he really added a light and positive atmosphere to daily life here. He contributed a lot during his time with us and supported us in many areas, always willing to help wherever needed. His motivation and consistency really stood out. It was a pleasure to have him as part of our project, and we can highly recommend him to any future hosts.

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting this wonderful young woman from Scotland, and we honestly couldn’t have wished for a better experience. She is such a lovely, warm-hearted person, and from the very beginning she truly became the soul of the project. Her presence brought a special kind of calm, kindness, and positive energy to our place that we will all remember. She was always caring and attentive, not only towards the work but also towards everyone around her. What really stood out to us was how much more developed and mature she is than her age would suggest—something quite rare and very beautiful to witness. In the garden, she was an incredible help—motivated, hands-on, and always ready to support wherever needed. She worked with such dedication and joy, which made a real difference to our project. We already miss her very much, and she left a lasting imprint on all of us. Whoever gets the chance to host her next is truly lucky.

Llegué sin saber exactamente qué esperar de mi primer voluntariado y sinceramente no podría haber elegido un lugar mejor. Desde el primer día me hicieron sentir parte de la familia y me acogieron con mucho cariño. Disfruté muchísimo de todas las actividades: pintar con tierra y agua, arreglar cercas, ayudar en la construcción y aprender tantas cosas nuevas. Pero lo que más recordaré serán las comidas compartidas, las risas, las conversaciones que tuvimos y la forma tan especial en que viven y comparten sus valores. Gracias por todo lo que hacen y por la pasión que ponen en este proyecto. Son una inspiración para mí y para muchas otras personas. Me llevo recuerdos maravillosos y espero volver a verlos algún día, Hanna🥰

It was my first Workaway experience and I enjoyed my stay (4 weeks). The garden is beautiful and very well maintained and the greenhouse with the outdoor shower is a highlight. The tasks were simple – weeding, mowing the lawn (which I enjoyed the most), fertilising plants, doing mosaic work, and cleaning tasks. Yeshe is very friendly. She took me along a few times and also invited me for meals. I really enjoyed getting to know her perspective of life, which I found inspiring. At the same time, we had little contact overall and communication was sometimes challenging due to the language. Over time, I found the place a bit isolated (I think its nicer to come with another person to this place or have a car to be more flexible). El Paso is a 30 minute walk away. Going on trips required more planning, especially if I didn’t want to walk back after dark. Temperatures were often 15°C, especially in the mornings and at night it was a bit uncomfortable. There was a gas heater available, but I didn’t feel comfortable using it overnight. The accommodation itself was lovely and I especially enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen.

We had such a lovely week and a bit with Azucena (Naia) in June '26. We hit it off instantly on a video call first to arrange her coming here. We hadn't hosted anyone since November due to several uncomfortable experiences, and Naia has restored our faith in Workaway and how it can be such a wonderful exchange and a way to connect with lovely people. Naia is intelligent, intuitive, creative and so helpful and she fitted in instantly, just helping out in a common sense way apart from the official tasks that needed doing. She did so much work in the garden, strimming, weeding and clearing firewood and she's naturally organised and likes order so she did a great job sorting out various kitchen storage areas. She's fit and strong and well able for physical tasks. She also used her creativity to take beautiful photos and videos of our place and my musical instruments. We loved Naia's energy, company and sense of humour and we had great chats. It was a pity the time was so short and busy as I was away to a yoga retreat, but she knows she's welcome back any time. I highly recommend Naia. Thanks for all your help and hope we meet again!

We spent two weeks with Paul and Aine and we couldn't have been happier with our workaway! Paul and Aine are very kind, generous and flexible with everything. We felt very welcome in their home, and throughout the stay it really felt like we were simply spending time with friends. We had many delightful dinners together and shared stories over a glass of wine, and we learned so much about life in Italy as well as about the region itself. I spent one month at David’s place in May 2026, and I truly believe it was one of the best experiences of my life! I met extraordinary people and learned so many new things. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to live closer to nature, meet people from all walks of life, and learn how to live in a community. I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to experience this. Thank you, David, for this wonderful experience. I hope to see you again soon!

I've been with David and the crew on and off since November as my first workaway, in total for around 5-6 months, it's my third time coming back and I've had the time of my life throughout all of it. The amount of connections with people you make here is insane, and it's a whole different experience to get into, very different than living in the city. I've enjoyed painting a ton on the ships, meeting all kinds of great people and being a part of the project. I'll be coming back to the project for the coming years for sure, and I'm confident it's a project which will continue for many many years.

I had an amazing time staying with Catherine and Andre,they made me feel very welcome. The house was lovely, and I stayed in my own apartment which was very nice. The area is very beautiful and there is a lot to do. I went on many beautiful hikes straight from the house, and they lent me a bike so I could explore the area further. The food was amazing, with plenty of it, you definitely won’t go hungry. Lots of amazing bread and pastries. I worked in the garden with Catherine which was good, the garden has an amazing view of the mountains. I worked from 8-12, then had the afternoon off to explore the area. It was a very nice balance. I had a very nice stay,and I can’t recommend this place enough.

Working on the farm, combing the grapes and picking cherrys - lots of fun, a bit hot but still good work. Anna and Fabrizio were so welcoming and accomodating. Highlight was getting to visit a dance class with Anna and learn a southern italian dance! Tenno as a town is beautiful and such a cool place to spend a couple of weeks. Thankyou so much for having me :)

I stayed with Isaac for 7 days, and he was very helpful throughout his stay. He assisted me with uploading photos to my website and updating its content. Isaac was flexible, accommodating, and easy to work with. I appreciate his support and would recommend him to others.

My time with Joana and Bruno was fantastic. They are very grounded, easygoing, and welcoming. My work involved helping with the renovation of their new Airbnb, entertaining their three kids, and taking care of daily chores. Their kids are full of energy and always ready to learn something new. My circus tricks received good reviews 😊 and I plan to bring back more when I go back to Colares. Overall it was a lovely stay and I highly recommend this place to anyone.
