CURRENT NEED:
We have established a base for trail exploration and maintenance in a small house in Sidyma, on the west part of the Lycian Way.
The next step is to help the villagers set up and run a campsite. So we are looking for people (a couple or friends) who are practical and have some DIY skills, as well as loving nature, trekking and a quiet life.
Youı can also help launch the campsite on social media etc.
There are plenty of trekkers passing through and they will be grateful for your work.
If you would like to live in Sidyma and help with work on the campsite, please get in touch for a zoom call.
We will not be doing any more fieldwork except in this area for a few months.
ABOUT US:
Our society aims to maintain Turkey’s 22 existing culture routes, to encourage the establishment of new trekking trails, and to set standards for the best practises for their development.
Culture routes are a means of deepening cultural understanding—both within Turkey, where city-dwellers are separated by space and life-style from their rural past, and by showing international trekkers aspects of Turkey’s culture that would normally find difficult to access. The Society brings benefits to the areas through which the routes pass, by involving local people in the routes, especially in identifying old roads and by offering them the chance to host trekkers in their homes and pensions.
Turkey's first long-distance trail was the Lycian Way, launched in 1999; it runs between Fethiye and Antalya in SW Turkey. User numbers grew rapidly and thousands of people have enjoyed this trail; it encouraged other enthusiasts to establish trails too. There are now 18 culture routes in Turkey, and we are developing more.
We have just finished the first stage of an ambitious project to develop a long-distance route which links Europe to Asia. Starting in Canterbury, UK, the Via Francigena runs all the way to Rome. The new project will extend it to Bari, then across the Adriatic to Albania then Macedonia and Greece before entering Turkey. It will finish at Demre, on the south coast of Turkey. We are now preparing for other projects in different areas of Turkey.
Our house at Sidyma will be a base for volunteers helping on clearing paths in the area.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Good opportunity to practise basic village Turkish, learn village crafts (beekeeping, carpet making, herb gathering, etc), explore woodland and hills. You will need initiative, and will learn quickly, as the villagers only speak Turkish.
Arbeit
Normally, we offer 2 types of help: office tasks and field help.
Field work is required when we need to make or renew way-marks, finding new paths, cutting and clearing scrub, etc.
Office tasks generally involves website and social-media maintenance, RU-EN-DE-TR translations, organising events, etc. We don't have any availability until February.
However, we currently need specific help in Sidyma village making a campsite and helping the villagers to run it. The work includes clearing and levelling the field, cutting brush and trees, extending the bathroom/toilet building, creating a small camp kitchen, etc. You can plan and organise the work as you like. The village headman will help organise materials or tools, and the imam speaks some English.Gesprochene Sprachen

Our office is in the centre of Antalya, close to the old town (Kaleiçi) where there are shops, museums, swimming areas, places to eat and drink, etc. We have a room for 2 people inside the office with bathroom, kitchen, etc. and a garden.
Our village house is on the edge of Sidyma, which is a small village of stone houses built over the ruins of an historic site. It's surrounded by hills and only a few km from the sea. It's quite isolated, without a shop, but has a travelling baker and greengrocer. Use of a bicycle. The house has 2 rooms, kitchen and bathroom, garden and roof terrace, internet, hot water, etc. The village has no shop, but a travelling baker and greengrocer call by.Was noch ...
The fieldwork is in a quiet, small village in the hills: on your days off you can trek, bike, birdwatch or learn to make carpets or cook with the village women.
Our office is close to all city transport. Antalya has airport, bus station, tram within easy reach of our office. There are plenty of historic places to visit around Antalya.Etwas mehr Information
