CURRENT NEED:
We will be doing some fieldwork to maintain, signpost and way-mark the Lycian Way around Kaş in September (dates tbc). Hard work with sharp tools and walking/trekking. Experience required. Let us know if you have such skills and want to contribute. Because this is fieldwork, normal working hours do not apply.
Also in the autumun, we will be doing a short expedition to complete a difficult route connecting a castle on a beach to the Lycian Way. This is very difficult work involving camping, carrying lots of water and bush whacking/way-marking. Only for fit and experienced people. 4-5 days expedition, dates to be arranged.
ABOUT US:
Our society aims to maintain Turkey’s 20+ existing culture routes, to encourage the establishment of new trekking trails, and to set standards for the best practises for their development.
Culture routes are a means of deepening cultural understanding—both within Turkey, where city-dwellers are separated by space and life-style from their rural past, and by showing international trekkers aspects of Turkey’s culture that would normally find difficult to access. The Society brings benefits to the areas through which the routes pass, by involving local people in the routes, especially in identifying old roads and by offering them the chance to host trekkers in their homes and pensions.

I stayed for over two months, at first helping out waymarking and bushwhacking on the St. Paul Trail, and later helping to establish a new branch of the Lycian way. We mostly stayed at small pensions and campsites, and got to eat local food. When we worked, we hiked up mountains and to… read more
