… read more I have helped in the garden, done some light carpentry, but also solved computer-related problems. Laurent and his daughter Romane showed me around the beautiful region, we shared delicious home made meals.
I could not have found a better Workaway experience to introduce me to this style of traveling and connecting with people.
I have also participated in Laurent's second Workaway project, which really made things more interesting, as there in a beautiful fort I have met a diverse set of colourful individuals - it really had a very adventurous, unique and vibrant spirit.
On and on: excellent hosting and work schedule. These are people that make interesting things happen and that are surrounded by action and a rich community.

I spent 3 weeks in may at Laurent& Laurence. I helped mostly in an around the house, prepared meals and spent time with their little daughter Romane. In my free time I had opportunity to take beautiful walks in the surroundings. The village is amazing :)

First of all, I have to apologise for leaving my review 3 months after my visit, but I've been very busy with university!
I had an amazing 3 weeks (in June and July) with Laurent and Laurence in their beautiful gites and home in La Giettaz, in good proximity to the Col des Aravis.

… read more contacted me to ask me to go there, as I had written on my profile here when I will be in France this year.
We were mostly doing the garden, caring for the plants, and I was taught a few things about permaculture, the donkeys and wood cutting. Initially, I was to be joined by a Spanish workawayer, but he could not come due to issues with his employment.
The garden is very big and beautiful, and Laurent has all sorts of plants in it: Lettuce, beans, tomatoes, flowers of different kinds, apple trees, wheat and corn, and many more.
We had amazing BBQs and lunches, with a lot of special localities. They both love having conversations about various topics.
I met their family, and we had many dinners with them, and also some of their friends, where one of them happened to be Greek! Their friends camped in the private forest of Laurent for a while, while we cleaned from urticas and other plants, and cut grass.
We went at the absoluely magnificent private forest of Laurent to cut wood. The forest has an old house, now used as storage, and many water sources with water coming from everywhere. Laurent showed me the basics of wood cutting, and the tasks that he does there, which I really enjoyed as well. I also used the grass cutter to clear the road.
The tasks in general are easy, and not hard to do, and can actually be quite pleasant.
Also both Laurent and Laurence were empowering me to improve my French, which I believe I did, even though I was insecure speaking with French (which I had to do, as their friends from Switzerland sometimes came to help us!), they did encourage me a lot to speak it despite my anxiousness over it (I am relatively intermediate in French).
I also experienced the delicious local cuisine, and their way of life, which is like a dream to me!
In general, I really liked their autonomous and simple way of life, and I wish I could stay more, but I had promissed to stay with a friend in Marne after them. And also, I really appricated that Laurent was very patient with showing me how to do certain things I did not do before, and facts I did not know, like the fact that ducks are useful for getting rid of slugs as they eat them! Also note, most of the vegetables they use come from their garden, which makes them very delicious.
Also, Laurence made nettle (urtica - ortie) soup from the nettles I cut from the garden. It was so tasty, and she even used it in lasagna, one of the most unique combinations of nettles and food I ever seen (and very delicious too!).
In the last week, a friend of Laurent from Strasbourg came to help us, especially in the wood cutting, splitting and saving.
The last day, we watched the fireworks of 15th of July, the most important celebration in France.
Generally, we did so many awesome and interesting tasks, that a text is not enough to describe them!
I was overall amazed by everything, they're the best people I have ever visited.
I still owe them a moussaka; I promise, next time I come, hopefully soon, I will make them a big plate of moussaka!
I hope to see them soon and help them and work with them again in the future! And of course, make them the moussaka I owe them!

… read more separate seeds of (lin, blé , etc), cleaning up the fallen leaves, cleaning a 'cheminée', planting trees with the donkeys, etc.
The house is really old and the story of the wall in the living room is funny :) Usually we -the three workawayers - prepared the meals for the family, but we also tried local delicacies made by the family, such as tartiflette, beef bourgignon, fondue , yummi.
Thank you Laurence and Laurent for letting me being part of the family and helping me with explaining the difference in the French words which I mixed up so now it all got clear : )

If you like ski, in winter you have a nice and small ski station "Le Plan" and for the rest of months you have "Col de Aravis"and surroundings and good put up signs routes for make mtb, vias ferratas, trekking,... and above all the best views of Mont Blanc :)
All the works that I did in relation with farm, garden, rural hostel and enviromental education, were very interesting for me.
Laurence&Laurent and their family are a great hosts of their place, and they share with you what they have. Perfect logement, food and activities in free time.

… read more Workaway. Cette sera difficilement ameliorable! Ils sont des personnes très agréables et généreuses. Ce a été un plaisir de faire leur connaissance. Je garde des bons souvenirs des conversations intelligentes et de l’échange culturel avec eux.
Puis ils sont personnes très intéressantes. J’ai profité mon temps en parteagant des inquietudes personnelles et professionnelles avec Laurence.
Par ailleurs, avec Laurent, j’ai appris à soigner du potager et quelques principes da permaculture et de l’écologie; à soigner des animaux; á faire le tri sélectif; et j’ai aussi appris sur la géologie des Alpes à travers son application portable.
Je me suis senti très bien avec la famille et en plus, je crois que j’ai amélioré le français.
Ils m’ont integré, avec leurs enfants: Eloïse, Valérie et Sylvain, dans leurs activités familiales et de loisirs.
C’était un luxe pour moi être logée dans la gîte “Le four” toute seule; un des appartements qu’ils louent.

That I don't forget they live in traditional French Alpine house which is bild with wood. Very nice! Thay also have some animals and garden. I like how they appreciate food, take time for eating, both Laurence and Laurent cook very good food!
