Peaceful experience of local life in Nkhata Bay, Malawi

  I am a Canadian living in Malawi, Africa. I have been living here for 10yrs now. I spent a number of years studying the culture and daily activities in relation to movement patterns and causes of injury. This led me to develop various programs in teaching and supporting physical mobility, ergonomics, heart health and care for elders with mobility limitations. I have a small non-profit under which these activities are supported and run.
  
  I stay in Northern Malawi near the lake shore. I have a small property where I built a place for myself. The land, gardens and random building projects are always more than I can manage! My place is 5km's from the town center/lakeside. It's peaceful with little disturbance. It's a warm climate which often welcomes swims in the lake after a day of work. There are a few lodges near by which are also a great place to socialize and have some good food.

  My place is set just out of town and in more of a rural setting. Interaction with the neighbors and community is welcome. The local men have a football league you may join or find other opportunities.

• 

  Arbeit

  There is always more work than I can manage with gardening, landscaping, building, carpentry and other projects; there is plenty to keep busy each day. There is a carpentry workshop and majority of power tools are available for someone to plug away and work on things. The gardens can always use help to be improved and managed. We have a small stream on the bottom of the land as well as a lot of composting in the process. I do have a gardener who always loves to learn new things and be supported.

  Unterkunft

  There is a separate self-contained suite which the photo is shared. It is within the courtyard and quiet. You have your own toilet and shower also. There is a single cooker, mini fridge and kettle. The wifi and solar are also available to ensure you are always connected!

  There are plenty of local options in transport. Easy for basic or long distance travel. Good, reliable buses for long distances and plenty of options locally for short distances. Motorbikes and taxi's are consistently available on the street.
  In town there are a few lodges which offer nice food and good swim spots, Kayaking, paddleboarding and scuba diving are all options. It's also a great place to meet up with other travelers and connect.
  Staying here is quite independent. The opportunities to meet others and be interactive is there and waiting your initiative! It's a quiet and simple life but easily can be found with things to explore and appreciate.
