Outside of work, Laura, her family, and her friends will make you feel like you've been there your whole life. Laura's family are very giving and patient (with my terrible Spanish especially), and helped me learn a lot about Catalan culture and ways of life. Not to mention the AMAZING food they selflessly shared with me! I met so so so many amazing people in Borges (who I already miss), and 100% plan on coming back as soon as I possibly can! Les Borges Blanques is a beautiful small town and I loved the days I spent walking around, trying new foods and reading at the park! The work at the school is pleasant and interesting, the kiddos incredibly cute and rambunctious, and the school itself is really cute and well-designed. Laura's family is so kind and welcoming, and I loved hanging out with them, eating together and going to the Torre (country house) with them. I enjoyed swimming, discussing American and Catalan culture, eating fresh Apricots and almonds from the Torre, playing camp games, and much more with all of them. Her little cousin Julia is so fun and hysterical too. Her parents, her brothers, her aunt, her grandparents, I appreciated and enjoyed so much getting to spend time with each one of them and really felt like I became part of the family.
And I haven't even mentioned her friends! They welcomed me into their circle almost immediately, and it was so much fun to get to spend time with them, go on trips, go to the beach, cook dinners, doing a little bit of zumba hehe, and sing backstreet boys together. They went out of their way to include me and make me feel welcome and a part of the group. They really helped make my month in Les Bourges Blanques one of the best months ever.
So, in summary, I recommend this Workaway experience one thousand percent, it was the experience of a lifetime. Laura, a huge, monstrous THANK YOU for being such a fantastic host and friend. On weekends, Laura and her friends and family showed me around Les Borges and neighbouring towns which was a once in a lifetime experience. I went to so many festivals and events that I never would have heard of had I not been living with them. Laura's family were so helpful and kind, and gave me amazing advice for my remaining travels around Spain. I learnt about and experienced some of the Catalan culture, including eating amazing traditional food and learning some of the language. I feel so lucky to have met Laura and her friends and family, and to have had this opportunity to work at the school I would 110% recommend!!!
