I had a wonderful stay with Suzi and Emmanuel in Grasse! This was the epitome of a workaway experience to me. There was good hard work in the mornings where I learned how to do new things. … read more are so kind (and funny). Their kids too. Michael and I got to go around town a bit and get in some workouts. I stayed for 16 days. The view from their balcony is EPIC. No, I mean truly epic. One of the best you will ever experience. And I've been some pretty cool places. Mornings start slow with breakfast and then it's 4 hours of good hard work followed by lunch and then free time. I like intense manual labor so I did a lot of work with concrete and power tools but I know they've also hosted people who did more work with gardening and painting. I even got to put them (and their children) through some workouts and yoga. On my days off I got to take the train to visit some of the French Riviera like Monaco, Eze, Cannes, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. I definitely recommend this workaway experience. I'm glad I came and have friends for life in south France. Thanks Roux family!

As the whole family is completely bilingual, it was the perfect opportunity for me to speak and improve my two favourite languages, French and English. Speaking to Suzi in German and working on some work/video projects together was so fun as well!
Overall I just want to say a big THANK YOU to each and every one of you: Suzi and Emmanuel as well as Candice and Roxanne - you made my stay in this beautiful region so special, I’m extremely grateful to have found a workaway family like you. I helped mostly in the garden, cutting trees and weeds, and also helped Emmanuel with renovating the living room. Emmanuel has a lot of knowledge and experience in all kinds of construction tasks. The house has the best view of all of Grasse, and there are nice running trails all around. We were incredibly lucky to host James for just over two weeks in November, 2023. He is a five-star guest, excellent worker, and has become a friend of our entire family. I was impressed with James before we even met, as he had just accomplished the huge goal of cycling 1500 km from Bilbao, Spain, to our home in Grasse, in just 15 days, crossing
… read more mountain passes, valleys and plains with ease. He joined my husband and son in the challenging task of uprooting a line of cypress trees that had mostly died, which took a lot of strength. They then planted a line of new shrubs as well as an olive tree, which required some serious digging! James has great energy and never had an issues with the very physical work they were doing. On the contrary, after working all morning, he would often go out on his bike and cycle 50 -60 kms as recreation! We would have loved to keep him longer. He is such a bright, well-mannered and easy-going person, it was a joy to have him and we enjoyed exchanging about sports, travelling, films, and culture in general. We do hope to host him again, and wish him all the best in all his upcoming endeavours.

… read more about 2 weeks working with Emmanuel and Michael removing trees and planting new ones. Both of them are incredibly skilled in all things landscaping/engineering/gardening/etc. and I learned quite a lot from them as they're both excellent teachers.
I loved enjoying every single home cooked meal from Suzi and the rest of the family. Suzi is a very talented chef (Lemon Meringue was off the charts) and musician, and I had the pleasure of listening to her play the piano and sing, occasionally accompanied by her wonderfully talented daughter, Candice.
During my free time I was able to explore Grasse and the beautiful surrounding area with some great cycling routes. Roxanne, Michael, and Candice were so fun to hang out with and were very kind to take me around different towns and hikes. The whole family speaks fluent english and french, so I was always very comfortable. It was enjoyable working on Michael's Honda Civic, winning countless Tennis matches with Roxanne, sharing music with Candice, running out of adjectives to describe Suzi's divine meals, and sharing beaucoup de cafe with Emmanuel.
I felt very honored to be temporarily a part of this perfect family I will undoubtedly miss them all very much. I'm happy to say they've become great friends in such a short time together. The work is not difficult, I spend the majority of my time painting and learned some new skills. Emanuel knows so much about renovating and always gave me great instructions. Suzi and Emanuel both have great knowledge about the area and are amazing storytellers. I also got to meet some of their friends as well as their daughters Candice and Roxanne, they are so kind and open-minded.
In my free time I was able to explore the French Rivera and there is so much to see. I went to Cannes, Antibes and Nice as well as some other smaller villages. Suzi and Emanuel always provided me with some good tips, gave me a ride to the train station every once in a while and we even took me to the Red Coast and the mountains with them. We shared all our meals together (both Suzi and Emanuel are excellent chefs) and had great conversations, accompanied with yummy cheese and wine of course. It felt like they really wanted to give me an authentic experience of the French culture and I am so grateful of the time I got to spend with them!

They could only stay a very short time which was a shame, but they had to drive (all the way back to Poland!) to continue their medical internships. During my stay the main project was to build walls in the garden. I didn't have a lot of experience with concrete, but Emmanuel has taught me a lot. I now feel quite confident in my abilities should I ever have to do a similar project.
Because (unfortunately) right now all restaurants are closed due to the covid restrictions, it was not possible to experience the local cuisine. However, because of Suzi's amazing cooking I don't feel like I missed out. Her cooking was amazing every single time.
I would recommend this host to anyone wanting to experience this beautiful part of France.

… read more place. Manu has huge amounts of experience and is really skilful at, well, everything! And not only that, he is patient and explains things so well. We worked together in the mornings fitting insulation in a bedroom, added new lights and retiled the floor. We made wooden stairs down to the fruit trees as well as starting the first few restanque, it is going to be amazing. The accommodation was beyond great..a really nice apartment the house with a tiny kitchenette outside, super cosy. In the free time, I explored Grasse as much as you could and the family explained lots of nice hikes near by.
We ate all the meals together and the food was always amazing. Suzi and Manu are great cooks. And Suzi is a fantastic singer and pianist as is Candice and as I play fiddle we had some really great evenings jamming! And hanging out and chatting with Michael and Candice was great too, they are both lovely people and always there to help or explain things..like Michael teaching me lots about mechanics.. such a bonus and was really grateful for that. I could keep going about this family!...they truly are amazing and amazing to be around. Hopefully I will get a chance to come back and some stage in the future. I can highly recommend! … read more for a summer rental and was very stressed, because it was a huge job: not only emptying out our closets and making room for guests, but redecorating entire rooms, installing new furniture, a new fridge, manicuring the garden, repairing any and everything that wasn't completely perfect... I felt so overwhelmed, but with Amélie and her friend Laura's help, we plowed through the job with great efficiency and excellent humour! It was a lot of work, and it was a heat wave, but they never expressed any complaint about anything. They were truly ideal guests - always smiling, proactive, helpful, and hard-working, and also charming company! They were also very easy to have because so independent - they drove here in their own car and would go out visiting the region on their own most days after helping us in the morning. The weeks flew by and it was so hard to say good-bye! I feel I have two new daughters in Germany. I highly recommend them to any lucky Workaway host who might have the pleasure to welcome Amelie and Laura.

The area is just amazing, the nature is so diverse and the cities so cool.
Booth of the rooms we stayed in (in Grasse and in their Chalet) were really comfortable and cute (and needless to say very clean).
We are both vegetarians and that was no problem at all, we got amazing food!
And I even hurt my foot on a hike while we were there and had to use crutches for 10 days and they were really kind and gave me work that I could complete sitting down, offered me everything from ice to tablets to going to the doctor with me.
They are just the best!

J’ai passé presqu’un mois chez Suzi et Emmanuel à Grasse et c’était une expérience formidable. J’ai de très bons souvenirs de mon temps passé là-bas. Suzi et Emmanuel m’ont accueilli très chaleureusement dans leur famille et donc c’était aussi génial de passer le temps avec leurs enfants Roxanne, Michael et Candice.

… read more sur ses projets de bricolage chez lui et aussi dans une autre résidence à Grasse. On a fait de la peinture, du jardinage et des travaux de restorations. J’ai gagné de bonnes expériences dans les travaux pratiques et en faisant du bricolage.
J’ai aussi travaillé avec Suzi. Je l’ai aidée avec des photos et avec son site de web pour sa nouvelle entreprise. C’était très bien de travailler avec Emmanuel et Suzi et j’ai appris beaucoup de choses. C’était bien parce que j’ai eu beaucoup d’opportunité de pratiquer mon français chez eux.
Ils habitent dans une très belle région de la France et quand j’étais chez eux à Grasse, j’ai eu la chance de voyager dans les alentours de Grasse. Je suis allé à Cannes plusieurs fois (même pendant le festival de film) à Monaco pour le F1 Grand Prix , à Antibes et à Nice. … read more elegant! "la Classe", she also take me to visit the parfum factory and gave me a present! so sweet! I really admire her and her intelligence for relationships! we shared time cooking too and I helped her to begin a new business what was also an interesting experience, I love Suzi! (mi hermanita). About Emmanuel.. he is also a person who I already miss! he is always in a good mood and he is so funny "Mira Miros" was his phrase all the time for me and I'll always remember it haha, he is smart and always taking care about the details and to make me feel comfortable. About the children, they are so cool too! Candice is so lovely! is a really sweet girl and friendly, also beautiful! I spend a really lovely time with her and we became friends, she has 2 bunnies and is so cute! (also she teach me to ski). Michael is a super friendly and sweet person too, he is so smart and is nice to have good conversations with him. And I just met Roxanne for some days because she usually is working far away but she is also a really sweet, friendly and funny person, of course, she is a professional chef = a great cooker!. I'm so happy to met them and spend time with them, I made too much stuff, to go to ski, to visit all the Côte d'Azur (Grasse, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Antibes and the Allos Valley), Always spending good moments, too much fun in an awesome company, sharing good food and business! and practicing languages, (it's nice because everyone talk Franch, English and also Spanish). Thank you Suzi, Emmanuel, Candice, Michael and Roxanne for everything, we'll stay in contact of course and I'll wait for you in México for the next adventure :) Los quiero mucho!
It was truly wonderful to have Miros with us. She stayed for a little over a month and we became great friends. She speaks excellent English and French but was also happy to help my family learn Spanish. She helped me create four new websites, did professional photo shoots for them, made videos that were integrated into the sites, created
… read more beautiful logos, and gave me great advice about how to best market my services. She is a lovely guest, an excellent and creative cook, has lovely manners and an excellent presentation. I had planned to do more artistic projects with her but our time just ran out! She is a talented sculptor and painter, and it was so nice to have her sunny, creative personality in our family for the time she could stay. We look forward to visiting her in Mexico and to having her back here!

Suzi is a great listener, taught me some very useful musical insights on the piano (not often a poor pianist like me gets to have lessons from a jazz pianist/singer pro!) explained about Provencal cooking in the kitchen and about life in general. Great lessons learned.
Emmanuel also taught me how to create some Provencal dishes and I we worked together enjoyably on a great project clearing up the land above their fabulous villa on the hill here . I really enjoyed the challenge of keeping up with his energy levels. He is great to work with as he tells you what the goal is, lets you get on with it and compliments you on the end result.
I also got to spend a very enjoyable day in their ski chalet, about 2 hours drive north.
All in all, a wonderful and valuable life experience which has left me with great memories and the hope that one day I might return.

We spent two wonderful weeks at the home of Suzi and Emmanuel at their lovely villa. The work wasn´t too hard and we learned a lot about living in the South of France. … read more and problems like german was a good experience. Suzi and Emmanuel left their house open for us full of confidence and always warmhearted and generous. We also remember at the wonderful evening when Suzi gave us a concert with piano and her great voice. We were integrated by the whole family, Michael told about his school and girlfriend, Candice sang some songs and played the guitar, and Emmanuel prepared the Pizzaladière, the delicious Pesto and Aioli. We had lively and interesting conversations, often hilarious! - learning all about their life in the wild Canadian North - and went on some fun excursions. The height of their stay was a fantastic 70-person party for which Jenn planned and prepared a gorgeous gourmet buffet, and the two of them held the bar and served all my friends while I performed with other musicians. Just wonderful! It was an amazing luxury to have such great company and the time went by really fast. We would be happy to host them again!
