Come to help us with our renovation project and enjoy the nature and a yogic living.

We are Anna and Jannik, we are a couple living in the heart of the Black Forest with our cat Levia. Jannik comes from Berlin, he is a social worker and he is also studying psychology. I am a photographer and a yoga teacher from Poznan, Poland.

We are both yogis with many years of experience in practicing meditation and Hatha Yoga. In the begging of last year we have moved into this house in the middle of the nature, located at the altitude about 1000m and by the stream Ravenna. The house is a typical Black Forest wooden house, that was built in 1800, and then renovated in 1970, so it has a lot of history. We would like to renovate the house and to take care of the garden so we can create a beautiful and cosy place to practice yogic living.

For this we need help mainly with construction and building projects, general maintenance and cleaning, but also with art projects and gardening.

It is important for us to create a spirit of community here. Therefore we invite you to participate in regular yoga practice with us, spending time together in the nature, making music by a bonfire, ice bathing in the river and also to bring your own interests and qualities.

With the aim to create a safe and elevated place for spiritual growth and a yogic community, we are dedicated to keep our place alcohol, cigarettes and drug free, so if you choose to come here we kindly ask you to respect that rule throughout the whole time of your stay. That also includes that while living with us, we ask you not to be under the influence of any of these substances at all times.

Our helpers can learn about yoga and meditation and living in a community. Jannik has a lot of knowledge and skills in woodworking and construction, that he will happily share with you. Anna has an experience in art projects, animals and some gardening. Living with us you can also get to know some Polish and German culture.

We will provide essential food ingredients for preparing your own vegetarian meals; like rice, potatoes, fresh vegetables, oatmeal, flour, bread, cooking oil, pasta ...etc. This can be adjusted to any special food requirements such as allergies. Occasionally we will also cook and eat together.

We are vegetarians and we would like that our place is free from any meat preparation, consumption or storage.

Directly at the house you will have an access to many beautiful hiking trails. The closest super market (well equipped) is only 20 minutes walk (we also have some spare bicycles here). Closest lake is reachable by public transport 25 minutes away. In the winter closest skiing lift is only 30 minutes of walking distance. Train station is 25 minutes away and takes you within half an hour to Freiburg with a lot of attractions like restaurants, theatres, cinemas, swimming pools and shopping centres.

Vom Workawayer (Rowan & Tayler) für Host

Just, wow! What an absolute pleasure to stay with Anna & Jannik for 2 weeks!

Starting with the most important part -

The people - Anna & Jannik immediately made us feel more than just guests in their home, and it took us no time at all to feel like we have new friends for life. Anna gave us a video call prior to coming, and through this we met… read more a very warm, kind and spiritual person that we were excited to connect with further. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Anna and the other lovely Workawayer Caro, and then met Jannik later in the day. From day one we laughed constantly, telling stories, sharing skills and creating wonderful memories through meals and other activities which will stay with us for a long, long time. Anna & Jannik are very knowledgeable in different skills and are more than happy to teach what they know! Despite having their own busy lives, they found plenty of occasions to take us around the area on hikes, out for meals, dancing and more, and we really felt their genuine interest in making our experience as joyful as possible. The positive and family-oriented environment they created really gave us the pleasure to help them build their property alongside them.

The tasks - Overall, the tasks varied from tasks that specifically suited our skills, to tasks that required helping and thinking together to overcome challenges. Despite some rain and snow, there was always something to do inside or outside the house! Some days could be longer, some could be shorter, and tasks were always discussed together in the morning which was a fantastic way to prepare for the day. We learned loads of new skills including basic carpentry, gardening, and even a little about foraging! Every day brought a new experience, and helping alongside Anna and/or Jannik was a fantastic opportunity to learn in a comfortable setting. We never felt pressured into doing anything that made us uneasy!

The home - The property is incredibly beautiful! You find a real sense of calm and peace, away from the busyness of city life. Outdoors is the river (nice and cold to challenge yourself with a dip if it's sunny!), beautiful places to read or meditate, and enchanting forests right on the doorstep. Indoors, the house is large and still developing day by day into a beautiful place to stay. We found it so cozy, with more than enough space to be alone or social. There was plenty of furniture lying around the house that we used to make our bedroom our own (suggestions for any improvements around the place were always encouraged!), and a dedicated yoga area in which we met most mornings to prepare for the day in a positive way.

Everything else - We were more than happy respecting the rules of no alcohol or meat in the house, and I can honestly say it was a life-changing experience to give these things up during our time, especially the alcohol! We left the Workaway with so much focus, positivity and clarity for our future plans. Group yoga by Anna most mornings was extremely beneficial from a physical and spiritual point of view, and also helped improved self-discipline and focus to take into the days ahead! Campfires, hikes, deep conversation, black forest cake.... long meditations, salsa dancing, movie nights, lake swims...just a few incredible other experiences we shared together!

I can't overstate how hard it was to leave such wonderful hosts and the beautiful surroundings we had come to love. We really hope to visit again in the future, or have them over to visit us, be it in 1 year or 10years... Germans always meet twice!!
