Beschreibung
We are a community living project in the heart of Carinthia, near the beautiful Faakersee. Since the beginning of May 2022 we work together with the government and are hosting refugees from Ukraine, Tadschikistan, and recently also from Syria and Turkey. We offer them shelter, food and a safe space in our house.
We live in the premises of an old hotel (see the pics), which has a lot to offer:
Fireplace room, large scale kitchen, garden, natural swimming pool, guest rooms, indoor and outdoor children's areas.
Our place offers versatile possibilities for creative work and space for new ideas and projects.
For 4-5 hours a day/5 days a week of volunteer work we offer you accommodation, as much food as you can eat and the possibility to grow personally and learn a lot of different things. There is scope and openness for your individual skills and abilities, depending on what's currently needed the most. At the moment a lot of the work involves housekeeping tasks, such as helping out at the (non-alcoholic) bar, cooking and doing dishes for the community and the refugees. But there are also possibilities for outdoor Garden work and building our compost.
Volunteers are also invited to bring something into the community and share their life, practices and projects with us.
We are looking forward to meeting people from all over the world. To engage with the refugees, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic or Turkish language skills would go a long way - but not strictly needed to build a connection with them.

Arbeit
Your shift will be from 10 to 15 o´clock or from 16 to 21 o´clock.
There is a weekly volunteer plan, where all the tasks are distributed among the volunteers.
To be self responsible is a really important characteristic for us. We trust our volunteers, so that we don´t need to control if everybody fulfilled their 4-5 hours shifts.
Furthermore we really appreciate people being self initiated and have their own ideas and projects.

Unterkunft
You can stay in our dormitory rooms for free.
In the warmer months, it is also possible to stay outside, so you can bring your own tent, caravan or camper-van. When you want to stay in a single room we ask you for a contribution of 5€ per day.
Also we provide as much food as you can eat! :)

Our region is a natural paradise! :-)
The Mittagskogel, the Dobratsch and the Gerlitzen invite to many summer and winter sports.
The Faakersee and the Aichwaldsee are only 10 minutes by bike away from our house, as well as many beautiful hiking trails. Furthermore, the closest city is Villach (15 minutes drive away) with its great secondhand stores, indoor and outdoor climbing facilities and a thermal bath.
Slovenia and Italy can be reached in about 20 minutes by car.
We also have a railway station called Ledenitzen Bahnhst nearby (10-15 minutes by foot) and a bus stop in front of our Hotel.

I had the most wonderful time volunteering here. The work was varied, although I was mostly gardening, the people were friendly and helpful and I had a huge amount of fun with the other volunteers there as well. There was also enough time to go and explore the area and to go for frequent swims in the nearby Faakersee. A truly brilliant experience.
