  We live at a castle which is an old historic estate in the heart of the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. It is a very peaceful place surrounded by wide fields and nature and because we have horses here there is always a bit of life on the grounds.
  The atmosphere is very down to earth oriented and calm so it is perfect if you enjoy country life and a slower pace.
  Even though we are out in the countryside you do not really need a car because a small grocery shop and a local bakery are just around the corner which makes daily life quite easy.
  
  We live in the countryside, so please keep in mind that the internet connection is not always stable. Also, there is not a huge amount to explore within walking distance apart from beautiful nature, peaceful surroundings and a chance to experience a more traditional, back-to-basics kind of life.
  
  In exchange for your help, we offer a cozy place to stay, and you’re welcome to use the shared kitchen and community room together with the other Workawayers. As these are communal spaces, we expect everyone to clean up after themselves and leave everything nice and tidy after use.
  We provide a wide variety of seasonal and local groceries. You can organize meals and cooking together with the other volunteers or simply prepare your own meals, whatever works best for you. 😊
  Also you'll have WiFi access in these areas, not in the room at the moment.
  
  We want to be open about the fact that we run a large horse farm and have a very busy daily schedule. As owners and operators, we work long hours and simply cannot offer the kind of family involvement or personal attention that some Workawayers might be expecting. This is also why we usually host several volunteers at the same time. Over time, they often form their own little community, spend time together, organize activities and become a kind of family for one another. There is usually plenty of opportunity to connect with other people rather than relying on us for social activities.
  
  We don't organize big trips or a regular sightseeing programme, as our focus is on running the farm. However, you're very welcome to explore the surrounding area independently. I'm happy to help with transport when possible, for example by taking you to a nearby lake, bringing you along when we go shopping, or dropping you off at the train station so you can visit Vienna or other larger cities in the region.
  
  If you enjoy nature, horses, a peaceful rural setting and the opportunity to meet other travellers while experiencing everyday country life, you will probably feel very much at home here. 😊

  Staying with us is a great chance to get to know the real Austrian countryside and see how a historic estate actually works in everyday life. You will see everything from the daily projects in the stables to creative projects around the house or the garden. Since our nonprofit riding association is an important part of the castle you can join in on local events and see how the community here comes together. We really love it when you bring your own experiences and talents because the exchange and learning from each other is very important to us. As a special thank you we offer a riding lesson from time to time, so you can build a real connection with the animals, no matter if you are already an expert or a total beginner. You are also invited to watch the vet, the farrier or many other professionals do their Job. It's all about your own willingness to learn and take initiative in daily life. In the end it is all about having a good time in the nature of the Weinviertel.
  
  As we are a large property with many horses and a wide variety of tasks, we reserve the right to adjust tasks, daily schedules and the distribution of tasks regularly according to our needs and the overall situation on the property.

  Arbeit

  ​We are looking for people who are reliable and motivated to help us with all sorts of different tasks around the estate. A big part of the daily routine happens in the stables where you would help with feeding and mucking out their stalls, that's the main work.
  
  In your freetime you are always welcome to take some of the horses out for a walk, do some groundwork or grooming. If you have enough experience you are also allowed to train our horses or starting the younger ones. We are always working on their education in a patient and a positive way.
  During the summer months we also host riding camps for children and that is when we really need someone who enjoys being around kids and helping them while they discover the world of horses. Your part can be to prepare the meals for them or simply take an eye on them while they have some pool-time or free time, play games or be creative with them.
  Besides the animal help we also need a hand with general maintenance and gardening or sometimes just keeping the house and the kitchen clean and organized.
  While you do not need to be a professional for everything the training of the horses does require some solid background and confidence. Overall having a positive attitude and being responsible is the most important thing to us. If you are someone who likes being active and does not mind getting your hands dirty and if you are a friendly team player then you will fit in perfectly with us.
  
  Please read this carefully before applying:
  Help in a stable is something you should not underestimate, neither physically nor mentally.
  
  A big part of the daily routine is mucking out stalls and leading horses. These tasks are repetitive and can be physically challenging. Some days are harder than others, and there may be moments when you have to push beyond what feels comfortable. A positive attitude, resilience, and a willingness to help are essential.
  At the same time, the help is incredibly rewarding. There is something deeply satisfying about finishing the day knowing that every horse is well cared for, standing in a clean stall that you prepared yourself. Seeing the horses happy, relaxed, and comfortable because of your work gives many people a real sense of accomplishment.
  In return, you get to live in one of the most beautiful stable environments imaginable. The property is surrounded by old trees, roses, gardens, and peaceful parkland. You'll be sharing your days with kind people and wonderful horses in a truly special atmosphere.
  Life here is not only about work. Usually, there are between one and eight Workawayers staying here, so you'll almost always be part of an international community.
  This experience is not a holiday, and it is certainly not the easiest Workaway. But if you're looking for meaningful work, enjoy being around horses, appreciate nature, and are willing to help, it can be one of the most enriching and memorable experiences you'll ever have.

  Unterkunft

  You will stay in a comfortable apartment or room. We have two appartments and four rooms, each with it's own bathroom and toilett. They are very quiet and cozy and invite you to really relax and feel at home after a day of helping out at the estate.You can also use the shared kitchen on the ground floor and the community room, called "Stüberl".
  
  Meals are part of the exchange. We usually provide all ingredients for cooking lunch, which can be prepared together in the shared kitchen. We also have different groceries for breaktfast and dinner.

  During your time off, you’re welcome to spend time with our horses and dogs, take the dogs/horses for walks, groom the horses, or enjoy other activities we agree on together.
  In summer, there are plenty of beautiful lakes nearby where you can go swimming and relax. You’re also welcome to use our own swimming pool on the property.
  There’s a bus stop in our village with connections to the train station, making it easy to explore Vienna and other exciting cities such as Bratislava and Prague during your free time.
