I stayed with Anna for ~ 3 weeks in August and worked with two other Workawayers (Lili and Simone, shoutout to you guys!! 🫶) and Sabrina (German girl who's been living there for 3 years).
I landed late at night in Reykjavik and Anna made it possible for me to stay at her brother's place for a night and they even trusted me to bring their car up

The tasks vary and depend on the days. There's no strict schedule (which is quite common in families), so you have to establish your hours and days off yourself. Anna tries to give you good weather days off and sometimes lends you her car if it suits.
I think this place is best suited for people who intend to stay longer as it seemed to me that it takes a while until you feel like you are part of the crew. Sometimes I felt like I was treated a bit impersonal and with a lack of care, but I'm also bearing in mind that Anna was away for work a lot during my stay. One time we were all hanging out on the couch, watched a show and Anna brought ice cream and spoons for everyone, so that on the other hand was very lovely and felt like a chill girls night.
Communication was often unclear and plans very spontaneous. Sabrina cooks dinner most of the time, but you have to make lunch yourself.
The kids are absolutely lovely and dive right into showing you their toys the moment you walk in the door. I had no issues with the both of them as they are super friendly, intelligent and fair. This was my first experience in kidsitting and I'm very grateful I got so lucky. They're very active, so keep up!
Depending on how many tours have been booked that day, it's possible to ride almost every day. The horses are super calm, easy and adorable!
It was so fun to hear Anna tell all her horse stories that involve A LOT of action...
On my second last day, Sabrina taught me how to drive the tractor which was incredibly cool and generous of her. I had a blast. Thank you again.
On my last evening I got a hat that Anna's mom knitted herself. It has little hearts and sheep on it and I thought it was so sweet!
After I left, I spend some more time I'm Iceland and eventually asked if I could come back for a day and be part of the shepherding which Anna immediately responded to and confirmed. So so grateful for the experience!

He’s such a responsible person with a lot of initiative and at the same time so light hearted, fun, calm and comfortable to have around. He was also good with the animals and very interested in the work concerning them and it was so nice to work with him.
It was simply so much fun to have him around! Working alongside someone that’s happy, doing every task makes every day better.
We’ve generally been lucky with our experience with workawayers but to have Luca might just be the best one yet.

I stayed at Anna & Arni's farm for almost 3 weeks at the end of February, mainly working to feed morning and evening the sheeps and the chicken. It was a lot of sheeps for me to get to know them, but I could I least remember few of them (6270 I think who
… read more like to be scratch under the arm ;) ! The farm is quite remote in the valley (the views are great), but Anna and Arni are going to Akuryeri sometimes, which makes us discover different things, even the horses gates competition and the tult trot.
Their little babygirl was still very small but already very cute and calm :)
That is true, the family of Anna is often here and there are all very friendly and welcoming, and the kids are fun!
I really enjoyed my experience to deeper discover Iceland with a nice and big Icelandic family.

… read more managed to get the mid-level hallway redecorated and installed a new carpet. Also the downstairs bedroom laminate flooring was installed including removing an old pipe which was housed in timber, making the wall good and repainting. I can honestly say that I enjoyed these projects and will be keeping an eye on Facebook to see your progress on the house in the future.
Thank you for allowing me to experience the life of a farmer, I have done so many things here I have never before. I especially thank you for having me over Christmas and new year where not only was it great fun but the food was so good I’ll be walking it off for a while to come whilst I'm visiting eastern Europe :-)
Highlights
-The farmers Christmas meal and dance, my first taste of Icelandic food, the card games after
-Ram testicles for breakfast - ‘we eat all ram!’
-Sheep’s head where I chickened out on the eyeball, Balder ate mine for me but the tongue was good
-Being able to cook for you guys, I enjoy cooking and you let me cook anything I wanted
-Intense zombie board games at Christmas
-Making music in my spare time with Anna
-Watching star wars VII at the cinema and season 5 of Game of Thrones
-Fireworks all over Akureyri for NYE and playing the ‘tappy’ game with friends
-The barn filling with water over night, where the sheep were and subsequently having to clear out a whole load of 'deep s***' with Rökkvi (it’s just a flesh wound)
-Anna making me an Icelandic meal, it was absolutely delicious
-Rugby tackling a ram, trying to stop it going somewhere it wasn't meant to and landing in sheep excrement much to Balder's amusement
-Sheering the sheep with the guys on the next farm
-Seeing the northern lights all across the sky straight after 45 minutes on the exercise bike
-Drinks around Anna’s cousins house, where not only did we have a laugh, I had a can of ‘man up’ and ate fermented shark
-Butter with bread
-Just living with you guys
I will miss you all including Dog, Cat and the sheep

Meike was nice to have around even thou the stay was only about two weeks. She did her best at the work and was able to make her self understood in Icelandic. Marianne and Joachim were nice to have around and it was lovely to come home to a cleaner house and knowing the sheep were well fed in the stable. It was over a quit time so they were not busy all day but it made me feel a lot better to have someone to help my father with the work.
