  What makes this place really special is its location. On one side we are connected to the main road, but behind the hotel you step straight into nature: the property lies directly on a beautiful river, with around 500 metres of its own riverbank. The views are magnificent, and there is plenty of space to sit by the water, make a fire, go for a walk or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
  
  We are currently looking for people to join us during autumn and winter. We offer everyone a paid position, where hours and tasks can vary.
  
  We are a Dutch couple helping to run a small hotel near Malung, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of central Sweden. The hotel has fourteen guest rooms, a small restaurant and a large garden, and almost everything is built from wood in typical Swedish style.
  
  October and November are our quiet months. There are fewer guests and life here slows down. We use these quieter months to take care of the place, do maintenance, paint, organise and clean, prepare firewood, do tasks outside when the weather allows it and tackle all the little projects that are difficult to find time for during the busy season.
  
  Because it can be very quiet here during autumn, this place suits people who are independent and comfortable creating their own rhythm. There is a lot of freedom and space, but you should also enjoy your own company and not expect a busy social environment every day. Couples, two friends or small groups of up to three people can be a particularly good fit, as you can explore and enjoy the area together.
  
  From December onwards, winter really begins. The landscape changes completely, snow arrives and the hotel becomes livelier again for the winter season. During this period there is more activity around the guest rooms and restaurant, alongside practical winter jobs such as keeping paths and entrances clear of snow.
  
  When the restaurant is open, we also have there paid positions available for people who are comfortable helping in a kitchen. You don't necessarily need to be a professional chef, but you do need to be able to do tasks independently and take responsibility for your workspace. Previous kitchen or restaurant experience, would be great. Our dishes and recipes are clearly described, so it is important that you can follow recipes carefully, check beforehand that everything you need is prepared and available, keep things organised and leave the kitchen clean and ready for the next service.
  
  The restaurant can be very quiet one moment and suddenly have several tables ordering at the same time, so you should be someone who can keep an overview, do tasks efficiently and not panic when things get busy. If you enjoy cooking, can think ahead and like the satisfaction of running a smooth service, this could be a great fit.
  
  We are still developing the hotel and there are always projects to get involved in, so practical skills and initiative are very welcome. At the same time, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the surroundings and experience a quieter side of Swedish life.
  
  If you like nature, cosy wooden houses, rivers, forests and snow — and you enjoy having the freedom to do your own thing — this can be a wonderful place to spend a few weeks or even longer.

  This is a place to experience a quieter and more rural side of Sweden. You will get a taste of everyday life in the Swedish countryside, surrounded by forests, wildlife and the river, while also learning what it takes to take care of and run a small hotel.
  
  Depending on the season and your interests, there are opportunities to learn practical skills such as basic maintenance, painting, gardening, preparing firewood and taking care of a large property. During the busier season, you can also learn more about hospitality, preparing hotel rooms, welcoming guests and — for those working in the restaurant — working with recipes, planning and preparing food and running a restaurant service.
  
  Nature is a big part of the experience here. There are beautiful hiking possibilities all around us and you are welcome to use our two canoes. If you feel confident paddling independently, we can even drop you around 10 kilometres upstream so you can paddle your way back to the hotel. You can fish from our riverbank, look for wildlife, explore the forests or simply enjoy being somewhere where there is a lot of space and very little noise.
  
  Autumn and winter also offer very different experiences. October and November are peaceful and quiet, while winter brings snow and a completely different rhythm of life — including the very Swedish reality of sometimes having to shovel quite a lot of it!
  
  It is important to understand that this is rural Sweden. The country is sparsely populated, distances are large and we have no direct neighbours. The centre of Malung, our nearest small town, is about 7 km away. There is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel, but you should not expect the social life or convenience of living in a town or city.
  
  This is therefore probably not the right Workaway if your main goal is to meet lots of people and have an active nightlife. It is a much better match if you love nature, enjoy some peace and independence, and are comfortable entertaining yourself. It can be especially nice to come as a couple or with a friend, so you have someone to explore the area with.
  
  In other words: bring good shoes, a sense of adventure and the ability to enjoy your own company (or your partner's 😉).

  October & November
  
  October and November are our quiet months. During this period, the work is generally relaxed and varied and can include light maintenance, painting, gardening and outdoor work, organising storage areas, preparing firewood and helping us take care of the property.
  
  There is usually no fixed daily routine during these months. We look at what needs to be done and decide together what makes sense that day. We therefore really appreciate people who are practical, independent and willing to take initiative rather than needing a detailed task list every morning.
  
  A minimum stay of around three weeks is preferred, and longer stays are very welcome.
  
  December – February: winter season
  
  During the winter season the hotel becomes busier again. For the hotel, the work can include cleaning and preparing the 14 guest rooms, preparing breakfast, helping guests, reception work, keeping the common areas clean and organised, and practical jobs around the property. Snow is a big part of winter life here, so keeping entrances and paths accessible can also be part of the work.
  
  For this period we are looking for people who are reliable, flexible and comfortable working independently. Cleaning in particular needs to be done thoroughly: we want someone who notices the details, takes responsibility for their work and leaves a room genuinely ready for the next guest.
  
  During the winter season we are also looking for: two to three people to help run the restaurant.
  
  The restaurant is open for lunch from: 12:00–14:00 and for dinner from: 18:00–21:00. You don't necessarily need to be a professional chef, but you should be confident in a kitchen and comfortable taking responsibility.
  
  We have recipes and systems in place, but we need people who can work quite independently: following recipes carefully, checking before service that ingredients and preparations are available, keeping track of what needs to be done, communicating with each other and cleaning and organising the kitchen properly afterwards.
  
  Most importantly, you need to be comfortable when it gets busy. Some services may be very quiet, while at other times several tables can arrive and order at once. At those moments we need people who can stay calm, work hard and finish the service together.
  
  The nature of hotel and restaurant work also means that some periods are considerably busier than others. We are therefore looking for people who are flexible with their working schedule. During a particularly busy period, longer days or additional hours may occasionally be necessary, followed by shorter days or additional time off when things become quiet again. The exact working arrangements and compensation for all positions will of course be discussed and agreed upon beforehand.
  
  What matters to us is that when you commit to a busy period or service, you can be relied upon to see it through. In return, when the hotel is quiet, we are equally happy to be flexible and give people more freedom and time to enjoy the area.
  
  Who fits well here?
  
  You will probably enjoy this place if you are independent, practical and don't mind getting your hands dirty. We appreciate people who see what needs doing and simply get on with it — whether that happens to be preparing a hotel room, painting a wall, shovelling snow, organising a storage room or helping through a busy restaurant service.
  
  Experience is always welcome, but attitude, reliability and common sense are at least as important to us.

  Unterkunft

  You will have a private room in the hotel during your stay. There is also a large shared living area where volunteers are always welcome to relax, hang out, read or spend time together, as well as a separate kitchen for volunteers where you can prepare your own meals.
  
  If you are travelling with your own campervan or motorhome and prefer to sleep there, that is also possible. We can provide electricity, and you are welcome to use the showers and other facilities inside the hotel.
  
  Food and drinks are provided. The kind of work, tasks, details and conditions of these positions will be discussed separately in advance. Of course we will take into account what your preferences are - as also the needs of the hotel.
  
  One of the best things about staying here is having nature literally on your doorstep. We have around 500 metres of riverbank and two canoes that you are welcome to use in your free time. You can fish in the river, beavers live around the property and moose regularly pass through the area.
  
  Although there are busy periods, especially during the winter season, there is also plenty of space and freedom to enjoy your own time when things are quiet. This is a great place if you like being outdoors, exploring the forests and river, or simply having somewhere peaceful to slow down for a while.
  
  A bus stops directly in front of the hotel, so it is also possible to get around without having your own car.
