Kia ora from Lisa at the Farm. We want to share our beautiful Maori culture, and introduce you to our simple, sustainable, organic, permaculture way of living.
We are a registered Charitable Trust organization that's aim is to foster our community with sustainable practices .
If you want an authentic Maori experience then our Farm is the place to be. If you are passionate about the environment, and would like to learn or practice your organic, sustainable, permaculture gardening skills then this is the perfect opportunity to do so. There are also numerous ongoing projects on the Farm, such as earth building and plastering workshops from October 2022 there are opportunities to express your creative artistic design skills in the finishing of our earth dome.
You will have the opportunity once a week to experience gardening in our Maori language speaking school in Taupo, There are also opportunities to visit and help at our local Marae (Where the tribe gathers).
My name is Lisa and I am from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Tongariro is my mountain, Rotoaira is my Lake, and Ngati Tuwharetoa is my Tribe.
I have been given the chance to use this beautiful Maori land, and would love to share it with you.
Our Farm is a developing Education Centre for Sustainable Living on four hectares in Turangi, establishing organic gardens, orchards and small experimental buildings. Our sustainable practices include growing nutrient rich food, using solar energy, and applying permaculture principles whenever possible. We do not use herbicides or pesticide sprays, and only use natural organic fertilizers.
We have been farming here since March 2010. We love to help in our community and we would love to share a real view into our Maori culture.
We are also a small animal sanctuary. Come and meet our rescue animals, Honey and Angus our dogs, and our free range chickens. Naumai haere mai (come you are welcome).
We do not have internet so getting data before you arrive is a choice to make when here.
If you want a Ta moko by an original Maori artist we can connect you to all of it.
We are creating an event off grid sustainable dance party festival celebrating special times throughout the year so help with that would be great and we love to connect with long-term volunteers . plus minimum stay is 2 weeks

Unterkunft
The workawayers share a village which includes huts, each with 2 bunk beds. The huts are a cute but simple and basic design. Please note there is no electricity in the huts. We have a shared solar shower, and use compost toilets. There is also a community kitchen / dining area where you can charge your phones
Food: We provide delicious organic fruits and veges from the garden (changing with seasons) and vegan basics (rice, pasta, oats, flour, etc). You are also welcome to bring your food to share in our community meals. You can also make your own tea with the plants around (eg. mint and lemon balm). Was noch ...
Tokaanu geothermal hot pools are 4km away. The Tongariro alpine crossing is not far, also known as Mount Doom, if you happen to have read The Lord of the Rings or seen the movies! There are nice walks around the farm and in summer we often go together to Lake Taupo which is just a 10 minutes drive away or walk to the Tongariro river just up the road for a swim.
