I'm a 56 years old Retired Nurse and presently, a Mental Health Counselor and Advocate for Women and Children Survivors of Abuse. I lived in Canada for 34 years and with my Husband and our 15 years old Son, which still living in Canada, just purchased a piece of the Atlantic Forest on the hills of the Mantiqueira Mountains.
Our focus is to create a Canadian Ecovillage in Brazil, where we use English as our first Language, so locals can improve their language skills while visiting our beautiful forest! Our areas of interests and needing assistance are on organic gardening, free range chicken and sheep farming, Reforestation of the Atlantic Forest by seedlings and also doing the planting, Agroforestry, Environmental Education and Research, Veterinary care for our sheeps, dogs and chicken, small construction projects and a lot of Carpentry, small building projects, sewerage, water capitation and Electrical issues fixing and maintenance.
We encourage people from all over the world to visit, market and contribute with our projects. I completely agree that 5 hours a day is a fair trade. Do your 5 hours a day and then go exploring the Atlantic Forest by going on many day or weekend excursions around us!💚
Our Volunteers must NOT smoke. Social drinks may be accepted at your own expenses. You will be considerate towards others at all times and participate on daily routines such as general cleaning, meals preps, maintaining main areas such as kitchen, bathroom, canil, chicken coup, sheep house and all living and entertaining areas clean daily.
We don't cook for guests but we encourage visitors and campers to participate during meals preparations and other activities such as hiking and swimming. For your protection, please bring long neck boots, gardening gloves, hats, and rain coats. Be aware that forest living offers many perks, but can be dangerous as well. There are amphibians and reptiles whose only home, are inside of the Atlantic Forest.
Up to date immunizatios, including tetanus and yellow fever, long neck Boots and a few pairs of gloves, are a must.
We are able to accommodate Singles only in our shared dorm for Volunteers. For couples, you may bring your own tent.
I hope this will assist you on learning a bit more about our Ecovillage Reserve. Feel free to ask questions at anytime.
