Hello Workawayers!
Our Community Farm is an intentional community of around twenty individuals that accepts Workawayers to help us complete farm tasks, while offering in exchange room and board as well as the opportunity to experience and participate in our intentional community. Our organic farm is on 80 acres of rolling rural woods in Louisa, Virginia, and is located near other intentional communities doing similar work. We are looking for Workawayers who are interested in contributing to the following seasonal tasks:
Gardening, such as harvesting, weeding, and maintenance using organic and permacultural techniques
Basic animal care
Domestic care, such as cooking, cleaning, composting, and food preservation
Building and construction projects, such as maintenance and erecting new buildings around the farm
Experience is not required, and training will occur on-site. Workawayers have complete freedom over their schedules while they are staying here, and so we are looking for independent and driven individuals. Length of stay is open for negotiation. Indoor and outdoor work is offered. The expectation is that Workawayers work twenty-five hours a week.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Learn about sustainability and homesteading, living in community, organic gardening, and cooperative businesses. We are offering a hands-on learning experience and skill building. This is also a great opportunity for anyone who has ever been curious about living in an intentional community. Workawayers are welcome to join open meetings and participate in the events and other social meetups of the community, such as parties, hiking trips, and town trips.

Gardening: We have acres of gardens with many crops, and we specialize in heirloom and organic varieties. Harvesting, weeding, and preserving food are the top areas we need assistance with this season. As the season progresses, we will also be planting fall and winter crops, rotating fields, and beginning the process of preparing for winter.
Domestic care: Members of our community live in personal rooms and commonly share living areas and kitchens. We also create community dinners most nights. Some domestic care tasks include: making lunches and dinners, cleaning up after meals, dishes, food preservation, living area cleaning and maintenance, outdoor area maintenance, gathering and preserving firewood, and composting.
Building and construction projects: We appreciate anyone who has basic trades skills, such as construction, carpentry, electric, plumbing, ect. These skills can also be learned on-site for any Workawayer interested in learning. We don’t have any large project plans this year but there are always small improvements and regular building maintenance through the year
Workawayers are expected to work twenty-five hours a week, or around four hours a day. The length of stay can be negotiated. You should be able to complete basic manual and physical work.Gesprochene Sprachen

Sleeping options are based on availability, and include: Personal room with full size mattress, wooded areas for camping, and shared rooms with bunks. Sheets and towels will be made available to you. Please note that our community has various cats and dogs that live in the buildings.
All areas of the farm have electricity, internet access, and potable water. Most areas have AC and heating. There are community washers and dryers, and common-use kitchens, showers, and bathrooms. Workawayers have free access to community food and will be provided a community dinner each day. Most dinners are vegetarian, with vegan and meat options.
In addition, the community has common amenities that are also available to Workawayers: a gym, art room, music room, libraries, and entertainment areas. Our land also has wooded trails, and a riverWas noch ...
This is a community of around twenty individuals who come from diverse walks of life. We ask that Workawayers are conscious and respectful of this when they come. There is no public transportation in our rural area. The community has vehicles, and Workawayers can ask community members for rides if they need to go into town. We also have bicycles Workawayers can use. We are not walking distance from any town, and so bringing a car would be beneficial. We are about thirty minutes’ drive from Charlottesville and Richmond. Being in northcentral Virginia, our climate can be very hot in the summer, wet in the fall, and cold in the winter. Since we are in a rural wooded area, there are plenty of mosquitos, ticks, lizards, and snakes. Be mindful of this when preparing to come!
