    Hello Workaway Friends!

(Please read to the bottom for instructions on how best to reach out!)

We've had such an amazing time hosting you all! Since 2016, we've hosted over 40 people from 14 countries. We spent 2015-2023 living near Washington, DC, but big life changes brought us to a beautiful, secluded 40 acres on a lake in Florida.

As a family, we've spent the last 25 years living in every corner of the US - Florida, California, US Virgin Islands, Oregon, Georgia, and Virginia - and traveled to nearly all 50 states. I am a teacher of myriad things, inventive and resourceful, and was a swim and triathlon coach in DC. I am currently in grad school to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. I'm super geeky about all things heath and science. I'm a big nature lover too and can name most species on our property, including lots of wild edibles. In 2023, my husband retired from 20 years with the US Coast Guard, and now spends his days working on this amazing property and training and racing triathlons. He loves board games, D and D, and bring equal parts working hard and playing hard! My son is 17, adventurous, and loves climbing, mountain biking, and gaming. He's headed to college this fall, though, and we will miss him greatly! My youngest is 14 and is our artist, competitive swimmer, card player, and reader. Also a killer card shark and wicked smart!

We are open and welcoming to all humans. We are non-smokers, non-religious, and eat a healthy, whole-foods, omnivorous diet.

Accommodations for you: a large canvas tent with a GREAT view! It has two foam mattresses with sheets and blankets provided. We also just finished a beautiful outdoor shower and restroom, and you have access to the house shower/restroom as well for cold days. Your tent site also includes a small deck and outdoor kitchen area.

NEW! We are opening the TREEHOUSE this year! This adorable A-frame structure was built by my father-in-law. It's super cozy with a small balcony and tiny loft. It has power, but no water. Let us know if you'd prefer the treehouse or yurt.

We also have a second large deck that serves as another campsite with 30 amp power and water hook ups. Great for van travelers.

This winter, we are working on forestry management, including the removal of vines and invasive plants, and pouring a concrete patio and garden area. Help around the house with basic chores and cooking is also greatly appreciated. We also love when travelers can provide unique skills in art (painting murals), construction, or anything else!

While you're here, we have kayaks you can use anytime - the lake is amazing all year long except on our coldest days. The property has walking trails, and there is plenty of space for activities like yoga and meditation. We also have some exercise equipment on site, including a rower, Zwift bike, pull-up bar, and we just added some great gym equipment with lots of weights. We also have a wood-fired hot tub that we run once a week or so, and it's SO nice in the winter under the stars! Our property faces West, over the enormous Ocala National Forest, so we have amazing sunsets and dark skies at night. We play lots of board games in our spare time, and enjoy playing with workawayers!

Again, we welcome you as family and hope to get to know you, spend time with you, and enjoy the cultural exchange!

    ---

Summer 2026 update! We are currently planning for the fall and winter seasons. Feel free to reach out!

We are hoping to host more people this winter and we are opening up the TREEHOUSE! This means we have accommodations for up to two people in the yurt, two in the treehouse, and space for a camper/van (with water/electric hookup) as well.

Please note, our expectation is that you come and stay as friends. When we stay with friends, we always contribute groceries to meals and we share kitchen duties, like cooking and dishes, just like you would at home. We open our home to you as family and expect the same in return. We typically host for 2-4 weeks at a time, but we are open to hosting you for shorter/longer, if that's what you're looking for. Let us know, we can usually accommodate!

We get LOTS of requests, so please answer these questions when you reach out. It helps me get to know you!

In the body of your email, please tell me:
    1. Your name, age, and country of residency.
    2. The specific dates you would like to come, how long you'd like to stay, and how flexible you are.
    3. Your skills and interests.
    4. Your travel/volunteer/camping experience. (Our property is kind of wild and remote - are you up for it!?)
    5. A bit about your job or studies IRL.
    6. Why you want to Workaway!?
    ❤️

We love to share the ins and out of the English language with all its quirks! I also speak Italian and love learning about other languages and cultures. Three of us speak a little bit of Spanish and my husband speaks a bit of high school French.

Our property here is very rural. Public transit is extremely limited - there is NO transit where we live and you cannot walk anywhere. Having your own car while you are here is highly recommended. However, if having a car is not an option and you're interested in more of a homestay atmosphere, or are content to mostly be here on the property, we are still happy to host you. If you come without a car, you can join us when we go out, but most attractions are an hour away or more. We always do our best to take people sightseeing if you come without a car! If you are flying in (usually to Orlando), the train to DeLand is easy and we can pick you up there.
