We are a family of four living in Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, D.C. We homeschool our two children, ages 8 and 11 and are looking for international students to broaden our lives.
Current update: We are available to host from June-August 2020 and we are still hoping to host someone when things return to normal. For us, summer is an amazing time to be here because we have an community pool just a few blocks from our house. We are very busy during this time and need extra hands that are capable and self-starting.
I would like someone to cook, bake, wash dishes and generally help with (or be in charge of) meals. You would also help with house chores (cleaning, laundry), and with the family. The help is typically very flexible and would allow you a plenty of time to see DC or take weekends away.
We are gluten-free and eat a wide range of animal products, fruits and vegetables. I can help you learn to cook and bake gluten free and teach you some meals that I cook. I would love for someone who loves to cook to bring us new dishes from your part of the world.
We are non-smokers, non-religious, have pets, love to be outdoors, hike, camp, swim (all the time), have rowdy children, and generally love anything new and fantastic that comes our way! We also own and operate a local family-oriented triathlon team.
I am especially interested in hosting someone from Italy as I would like to keep up my Italian, but obviously we are open to have anyone!
Our house is in a very residential neighborhood and not within walking distance of any shops. Traveling into DC is usually a full day trip and is possible by bus and metro. We are very close to a spectacular bike and running trail on the Potomac river and to Mount Vernon (the original home of George Washington). We play lots of games in the evenings and generally work hard and play hard!

By staying with us, you will gain experience in life and better your English. You will be able to spend time both in the city in DC, Arlington and Alexandria and in the woods and mountains of Virginia.
Volunteers can help mostly in the kitchen and around the house. I am looking for someone that can cook well (and baking, too, would be a bonus). You would help with most meals and meal planning, setting the table and cleaning up afterward. I am happy to help you plan and teach you to cook some meals. Other jobs would include housekeeping, laundry and family help. You may also potentially help outdoors with gardening, landscaping, or house maintenance. Basic English is a must...but you will learn plenty from us and we are happy to help!
Guest room in a four bedroom house. Queen-sized bed, shared bathroom.
Volunteers can travel to DC or surrounding areas - usually on a day off. Getting to DC takes about 45 minutes by express bus (weekdays) and 60 minutes or more by bus/metro on weekends. You can bike ride into DC/Alexandria/Arlington (about 12 miles to DC) on the beautiful George Washington bike trail that runs along the Potomac River. We live in a very quiet, suburban neighborhood that is great for biking, walking and running. Shopping and restaurants are 2-3 miles away and you can easily bike to them. We can help you find a bike to buy if you'll be with us for a long period.
