Hello from Our Village in Magelang!
Hi! My name is Afif, and I'm a history teacher at an international high school in Magelang, Central Java. Our school combines international education with the values of a traditional Islamic boarding school (pesantren), so every day I get to learn from both local traditions and global perspectives. Our village has a strong traditional Islamic culture and is closely connected with Nahdlatul Ulama. The people here are friendly, welcoming, and always happy to share local traditions, food, and daily life with visitors.
A few moth ago, I had the chance to guide international visitors around Magelang. I really enjoyed meeting people from different countries, sharing stories, and learning about their cultures. That's what inspired me to start a small youth community in my village. -

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
Our community is all about learning from each other. We don't expect you to be a teacher we simply hope you'll share your culture, language, hobbies, and life experiences with us. Even a simple conversation over coffee.
You'll have the chance to meet local young people, practice English together, play games, cook meals, explore villages, and visit historical sites around Magelang. If you have a special skill such as music, photography, art, sports, storytelling, or crafts we'd love for you to share it with the community.
In return, we'll introduce you to Indonesian village life. You can experience local traditions, taste homemade Javanese food, learn a few Indonesian phrases, join community activities, and discover the rich culture of our traditional Islamic village. We're also happy to share the history of Magelang and take you to beautiful places like Borobudur Temple, mountain viewpoints, and hidden historical sites that many tourists never get to see.
For us, cultural exchange isn't about giving lectures or taking classes. It's about building friendships, sharing everyday life, and creating unforgettable memories together. -

Arbeit
We want to create a space where young people in our village can meet, connect, and learn from people from around the world.
Many of them have limited opportunities to speak English with native speakers or interact with people from different cultural backgrounds. We believe that learning English should be more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar it should be a bridge that helps young people communicate, build confidence, and discover new perspectives.
Through this class, we want to create opportunities for friendship, cultural exchange, and meaningful conversations.
We hope our students will not only improve their English, but also become more open-minded, curious, and confident in connecting with the wider world. Our goal is not simply to teach English, but to help young people realize that they can be part of a much bigger world. -

One of the main reasons we started this community is to create opportunities for language exchange. Many young people in our village are eager to improve their English, but they rarely have the chance to speak with people from other countries. As a volunteer, you don't need to be a professional teacher. We simply hope you'll spend time chatting with us, sharing stories about your country, and helping us practice English in a fun and relaxed way. We might have conversations over coffee, play games, go for a walk around the village, or visit historical places together. Learning happens naturally through friendship and everyday life. In return, we'd be happy to teach you some Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) and even a little Javanese! You'll also learn about our traditions, local customs, and the daily life of a traditional village community in Central Java. We believe language is more than just words it's a way to connect people. We hope that by learning from each other, we'll build lasting friendships and create memories that stay with us long after your visit. -

A Few Things to Know
Life in our village is peaceful, simple, and closely connected to Javanese culture. People here value respect, kindness, and good manners. You'll often hear the word gotong royong, which means helping each other as a community. We believe that sharing meals, working together, and spending time with neighbors are important parts of everyday life.
Our village also has a strong traditional Islamic culture. Simple, but knee-length and covering the armpits, especially when visiting public places, schools, or religious sites. During prayer times, you may hear the call to prayer from the mosque, which is a normal part of daily life here.
What to Do in Your Free Time
There are plenty of places to explore during your days off. You can visit Borobudur Temple, hike Mount Andong or Mount Telomoyo, enjoy the beautiful views at the Mangli Highlands, relax at Embung Kledung, or discover the peaceful countryside around our village. If you're interested in history, we'd also be happy to show you some hidden historical sites that are rarely visited by tourists.
You can also spend time at local coffee shops, explore traditional markets, try delicious Javanese food, or simply enjoy cycling and walking through the rice fields.
Getting Around
We’ll accompany you and help you visit some of the places you’d like to see, to the best of our ability, whether by car or motorcycle.
