  Located in Cape Kimberley, Daintree Rainforest, we are a 527 acre property with a goal of transforming an old organic banana farm back into lush rainforest, pushing for restoration focused on enhancing biodiversity, creating corridors for local fauna and a re-connection between primitive rainforest and some of the most diverse and productive mangrove ecosystems in the world. To do this, we will be planting 360,000 native trees by 2030.
  
  Currently, our team of dedicated workers and volunteers are collecting and germinating seeds locally for the nursery, with 15000 trees growing strong. We now have 6000+ trees out in the paddock that also need managing. Generally, most of the work that keeps us busy is managing the trees which have already been planted, maintaining the land and ensuring we have a steady flow of seeds coming through the nursery. We have to be sure we will have enough trees to plant in the ground!
  
  If you don’t like getting your hands dirty, this won’t be the place for you. We strive to gain a deeper connection with the land here, and believe the best way to do this is to become immersed in the site and the soil we work on.

  We provide a deeper educational understanding on nursery logistics, general land care (pest/weed control), permaculture practices, sustainable, spray-free farm management & many more skills related to farm life. In our spare time, we enjoy the natural spaces close by and immerse in the appreciation of the oldest rainforest in the world.
  There is much diversity in wildlife and plant life to explore and enjoy. The beach is only 2km and the surrounding environment is peaceful and a good chance to recharge in nature away from the business of city life.

  Arbeit

  Currently we are looking for a few long-term based volunteers (ideally 2+ months) to help with the processes required in running our operation.
  
  We would like to encourage people to stay a minimum 1 month, as it takes time and energy for team members to train, educate and share processes with new volunteers.
  
  Tasks will involve helping in the nursery, whether germinating seeds, re-locating trays of plants, helping strengthen infrastructure, weed control, or any of the random tasks that you could find on the day-to-day running of a farm. Time will be spent exploring the local vicinity when seed collecting, another key area of focus. We have communal gardens with herbs, vegetables and lush fruit trees that also need to be pruned, mulched and weeded. The hardening and nursery areas need to be expanded, plus lots more. It's also important to look after our oceans, with beach clean ups becoming a great opportunity to clear away rubbish, and also enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There's always something on the farm or surroundings that needs to be done, so, if you are pro-active, with a can-do attitude, then the opportunities and experiences you will have here will be unforgettable.
  
  If you're specialised in carpentry, mechanics, content creation (social media management) or agriculture/nursery management then we are eager for your expertise on site. There's never only one way of doing things, and to have input from people with different backgrounds is vital to a community driven project.

  Volunteers have the opportunity to stay at the farm in tents, swags or vans.
  
  There is plenty of open land and space on the farm with open starry skies when the weather is clear and then a large banana packing shed turned into a work and communal space for shelter during wetter periods. Everything is off-grid and we have installed a large solar system on the roof, which gives available facilities to wash, cook and charge your devices. There is a beautiful outdoor shower, food forests and communal gardens to enjoy.
  
  We ask for 20 hours per week commitment, generally 4 x 5 hour sessions (08:00-13:00). There will be staple foods available such as oats, pasta, lentils, rice and fruit etc.

  There are a plethora of outdoor activities to do here within the Daintree, whether going to the local beaches, exploring the nearby creeks or taking strenuous missions up to the top of mountains. It's an outdoor adventure land. If you'd prefer to enjoy cafe's and general amenities, we are only a 45 min drive from Mossman, and a 2 hour drive from Cairns. Having your own transport would be highly beneficial to make the most of exploring the area, however, the closest beach is only a 2km walk away and the views from the veranda are quite spectacular!

  We are currently in the process of getting satellite broadband on the farm which will be available once properly installed. However, since we are in a rural area, this is taking some time. There is some mobile data coverage but this is somewhat limited.
