We live in a beautiful, unspoilt part of the Eden Valley in the Lake District in an old farmhouse which we are doing up steadily and gradually. We also run a forestry, firewood and timber business from the farm as well as keeping plenty of hens for fresh eggs, some guinea fowl, 2 goats, 8 sheep, 3 horses and our friendly collie dog, Jed. We have about 10 acres with the River Lowther running along the bottom through a wooded area where you might be lucky enough to spot the otters, heron or kingfisher if you catch it right! We have 2 daughters Beth (24) and Rosie (21) who are off at uni but are often around and a little boy called Billy who's 8 and likes to play football in the field with his friends and bomb about on his bike.
It's a busy place here with a lot going on with the wood side of things, including a log cabin maker on site, occasional craft courses and a large garden to get to grips with so we are looking for a friendly person to fit in with daily life on the farm who is willing to be flexible and practical but to actively enjoy and contribute to the life we have here and hopefully learn new skills and interests and make new friends.

It's a great place to come and explore the Lakes from - Haweswater is withing easy cycling distance and there are plenty of amazing walks on the doorstep with Shap Abbey just a couple of fields away. Shap is only 3 miles up the road - a village with library, shops, chippy, open air swimming pool open until Sept and a bus to Penrith or Kendal (though these are not particularly frequent!) There is plenty to learn from the mixture of artistic, creative and practical folks who spend time here and we welcome input and enthusiasm from new volunteers to the farm.
Workwise it would be great to have a Workawayer to assist with jobs around the farm as well as in the house - helping with the animals, sorting the eggs, gardening, grass cutting, painting, decorating or generally bringing your own particular interest or talent to the on-going renovation project to move things on a bit.
We have a biomass wood boiler which runs all our heating and hot water and this is an important element of our farm too. There's lots to do here and it would be great to have an extra pair or two of helping hands to bring the place to its former glory in exchange for the chance to live on a thriving, picturesque farm with lots going on.

There's a large static caravan with a double room to stay in with a flushing loo, shower, cooking facilities and fridge. It's in a wonderful, secluded part of the farm with a great deck for sitting out, admiring the view or eating your meals. It's simple but has everything you need and is cosy and comfortable. There will be some shared meal times with the family but generally food will be provided for you to cook for yourselves in the caravan.
Public transport from here is almost non existent but we'd be happy to give lifts whilst going to and from work or up to Shap where buses run from. Penrith and Kendal are the nearest towns and both have plenty to explore and enjoy and you'd be in the heart of the Lakes if you are a keen walker. There is a local pub in the next village and we're right on the Coast to Coast path and near to stunning scenery and places to swim in the rivers.
