This is a place to experience the authentic tradition of Bhakti Yoga or the yoga of devotion. A Hare Krishna community located in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, England, it serves as both a shrine and a temple and is one of the most visited temples in Europe, attracting over 3,000 visitors weekly. Spanning 80 acres of landscaped grounds, the property features expansive agricultural land, vibrant flower gardens, a children’s playground, and a serene lake.
the Farm at is a home for our milking cows and bulls trained to pull ploughs and carts. Our Horticultural Development Project provides a special opportunity to explore ethical and organic farming techniques, entirely free from pesticides and chemical fertilisers. A variety of vegetables are cultivated on the farm, including potatoes, tomatoes, squashes, cauliflowers, cabbages, peppers, herbs, and more.
Whilst here, we try to offer our visitors an assortment of activities to take part in. Depending on the season and the number of guests, activities can range from serving on the farm to helping with the gardens, cleaning the common areas or helping with decorations for one of our many festivals throughout the year.
A typical day might begin with a meditation session, followed by a delicious breakfast. Guests then gather with their group to discuss the day's services before heading out to participate in farm activities. After lunch, the activities continue, and the day usually concludes with a wellbeing session or a yoga class before dinner.
Therefore, our daily schedule offers a blend of farm-based activities (4 hours) and spiritual activities (2 hours), providing guests with the unique opportunity to experience life on the farm while connecting with the enriching atmosphere of the Temple.
We offer simple accommodations in converted cargo-container cabins near the vegetable production area which is around 10-15 minutes walk to the main temple building. There are twelve beds (6 bunk beds) available in the ladies’ guest cabins and eight beds in the men’s guest cabins (4 bunk beds), both with personal small lockers for each visitor. Showers and toilets are located outside the caravans and are shared by all volunteers.
We provide three wholesome vegetarian meals a day, which are mostly Indian cuisine. Our diet is lacto-vegetarian and as such, milk is in a lot of our foods. Vegans do stay with us and can navigate the menu to some degree. Part of the milk and milk products are from our own cows. Most meals are served at the Sri Krishna Haveli Hall, located a 10-minute walk from the farm. Therefore, cooking is not required, however, we provide a kettle, a toaster, and a microwave, for your convenience.
You will have exclusive access to our wellness area (which is also the living room area for relaxing), where guests will engage in daily activities such as yoga, meditation, qigong, and more as part of their stay. This peaceful space also offers a perfect setting for relaxation and quality time with others. In addition, you can explore our carefully curated bookshelf, featuring books on our philosophy and lifestyle, along with a variety of board games for your entertainment.
As a vegetarian and faith-based community, we kindly ask our visitors to respect our values during their stay. This includes refraining from consuming alcohol, smoking, or using drugs, as well as avoiding meat, fish, and eggs. As a monastery, we also request that you honour our spiritual values by wearing modest, non-tight clothing and refraining from romantic relationships with others during your stay. We have a strict policy on-site, and any guests who breach these conditions may be asked to leave.
