Before I begin I must say that this was my first Workaway experience, and my first time in Norway. For a lot of firsts I don't think I could have been any luckier. I stayed in this magical area for a little over a month and I wish I came here sooner so I could've stayed longer.

Time is their most precious resource but they're always willing to spend that time to look after you if you need it. I spent most of the time with Sverre-Benjamin who is always working hard while maintaining an infectious positive attitude and everytime we shared words I walked away feeling better than before. Annette is a sweet soul who is very efficient and also has amazing cooking skills (especially the cakes) and Tuva is the wildcard that provides endless entertainment during dinner. Whether it's dinner at the family's house or at Ingebjørg's 5 Star restaurant up the road you'll always be well fed with quality food. And if you're not much of a people person you have some of the most beautiful nature to get lost in, especially if you're into gloomy forests and epic mountains. They also have a cottage in the mountain that I HIGHLY recommend spending at least 1 night in as it's an experience like no other and I don't know where else you can get an opportunity like that. Now as for the work itself, you'll be spending most of the time in the cow house, especially if you are alone. The work really isn't hard but if you're not used to this kind of work like I was, it can feel very repetitive. But after you have spent time with the cows and begin to understand the lifestyle it becomes a very fullfilling routine. Overall an unforgettable experience. I will miss the land, the cows and especially the family.
So if you like nature and cows, this is the perfect place for you.

Sverre is a fantastic host, he is soooo positive, calm, caring and we always had a laugh working together. He is also so gentle with the cows and with the bulls ? Haha. Yes, also with the bulls. For my first ever workaway staying with Sverre and his family was a great choice. Everyone was very lovely and I really felt like part of the family from the start. I've also done other tasks such as putting away wood, cutting hedges and cutting grass.

I was hosted by the family for 4 weeks in May this year. At the age of 64 I was worried that they would think I was too old for the manual labour. In return, there is plenty of free time to explore the beautiful region and the family have a wealth of suggestions to make the most of your time in Norway. Sverre, Annette and all the family are extremely welcoming and are always willing to spend plenty of time to show you exactly what the daily work routine is. In return they expect plenty of hard work and reliability. Their time is precious and the work volunteers carry out enables them to complete all the other jobs farmers face every day. Yes, the work can be repetitive and physically demanding, but there is great satisfaction in being trusted to look after the milking cows and other animals unsupervised and being able to complete this to a high standard. This is not a place to come if you can't fit in with that regime. My stepson, Harry, joined me about 2 weeks into my visit and stayed for a couple of weeks after I had left. This was his first solo trip abroad and his first Workaway experience. Being aware of this the family were all fantastic in making him feel welcome and I know he really took to them and loved his experience on the farm. It has, without doubt, given him enormous confidence for future adventures.
Meeting other volunteers is also part of the experience of cultural exchange - thanks Gus!
I travelled to Guddal by motorbike so was able to enjoy the most amazing scenery both close to the farm and further afield, it must be some of the best motorcycling anywhere in the world. Walking to the two cottages they have in the mountains was also fab, swimming in the lake and enjoying the stunning surroundings was worth all the effort to get there.
Thank you guys, all of you, a memorable trip.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

hi!!!!
I don't know what to say about my experience at the farm because the volunteers before me have described the experience with beautiful words, but I will try to write about my precious experience. The farm is situated in a beautiful valley where, if like me, you love nature, you will feel like you're in a dream. You can walk freely
… read more discovering wildlife, frozen lakes, stunning landscapes, waterfalls, following the deer highways, hearing the beautiful and unique music of the forest, and you can even reach the fjord by walking.
The work, for me, a person used to working many hours moving iron and getting up very early, I would describe as routine,easy-peasy. After a week, you will have the official "yulgrab" card, you will spend good moments in front of the "blending machine for grass" screens deciding the parameters, maybe a shower with fresh water from the silo ball, you can practice Curling with the cows, and above all feel the love that Sverre gives to the cows and that they give to the volunteers. The worst for me was listening to my sheep friends and their lambs singing opera; if you like opera, you will love the sheep.
Finally, I want to say that from the first day, despite my bad English, I felt like one more member of the family. It's true that Norwegians have a different character compared to those from Southern Europe, but this doesn't change the fact that they have big hearts and are willing to help you in any way they can. I will never forget Sverre, Anette, Tage, Tuba, Benjamin's mother, and of course Max, the fabulous cat-dog. I will also not forget Hanna and Galicia.
My best wishes to the family; you already know why I will always remember you.

I stayed with Sverre, Annette, Benjamin, Tage and Tuba for the month of March. They have a really nice farm with about 70 cows and at that time around 20 sheep. Also it was nice to work inside in March because it was -15 degrees outside but inside it was warm and it didn’t matter if it was raining or snowing outside. After a short time you also learn the character traits of the cows which is kind of funny because they’re so different, but nearly all of them are really kind and you can pet them. And if there’s a problem you can always ask the family because they all really know a lot about their cows. They also have cows of any age and it was really sweet to feed the little ones with the bottle and see them grow up.
The family was really nice, I loved to talk to them, learn a bit Norwegian, laugh together and watch for example Netflix or the Voice with them in the evenings. Also thanks Tuba for going snow-bathing with me I will never forget it :) The food Annette makes is always so good and she even made it vegetarian for me which I really appreciate!

My main work consisted of taking care of the cows and calves in the morning from 07:30 until a little after 9 and in the evening again starting at 18:00, by providing them with food and cleaning their lay-down areas. I did this on average 6 days in the week, as Sverre has a very high work load. I also benefited from opportunities of a little different work, like driving on a mini-tractor, repairing fences and trimming bushes. The early morning and evening work means that I had a lot of free time during the day that I used to scout the area and experience other parts of farming. I stayed in a separate little house with a kitchen and toilet and enjoyed the possibility to retreat there when I felt like it. Many sheep had their lambs when I stayed here and the many lambs are fun to pet and play with. Finally, I wanted to go to a place that was hard to reach by public transport, and the family was generous enough to let me borrow their car and go on a little roadtrip in the norwegian countryside. For the duration of my staying I lived in a small house besides the cow house. Surely it wasn't like being in a five star hotel, but it was totally liveable. Also, it's been nice to have my own little place to manage and keep clean!
The place around the farm is very beautiful. Guddal is a bit of a remote place, far from big cities and their comforts, but it's sorrounded with beautiful, haunting woods and mountains. If you like getting lost in nature, this place it's definitely the one for you: I've done many walks in the woods and up to Sverre cottage, with or without snow, and I beheld some really very spectacular views.
As for the family, they're amazing in every way! Sverre is a funny guy and a great, very patient teacher, Annette is a great cook (and probably the most efficent person I've ever met) and their children are always there for some chat (unless they decide to go full norwegian: in that case, you just have to sit tight and enjoy the sounds of their wonderful language).
I felt welcomed and cared from day one, and I can't be grateful enough to you guys (especially for tolerating my italian appetite)! My staying was amazing and I really going to miss the whole lot of you, the valley, the cows, Odin and all of your other beasts! Thanks again!
