Hello, Hola, Jambo!
I and along with my colleagues/volunteers, we strive very hard with the most vulnerable children and adolescents by catering to projects situated in the Northwest region of the United Republic of Tanzania on the South-Western shores of Lake Victoria.
This is a small not-for-profit, Children’s Rights organization located in rural Bukoba. Our focus is on the empowerment of children and young youth suffering from abuse, poverty, and exclusion. We focus on teenage girls as well as children living on the street. We continuously try to change the often, unbearable living conditions of our beneficiaries. Furthermore, we co-operate with local schools, social welfare officers, and other NGOs as well.
The purpose of our projects is to aid our beneficiaries by fighting against poverty and injustice.
1. Street Children & Young Youth Project
We visit the local streets to assess their condition, teaching children some subjects, conducting sports & games provide first aid, and speak to them to find an opportunity to encourage them off the streets also reunite a child with the family. We then create a file with background information for every child accounted for, which helps us identify their needs, locate any newcomers and assist them as well as refer them to the applicable services.
Our current focus is to improve the conditions of young youth and children's livelihood by providing them with soft and technical skills for professions such as carpentry (woodwork), welding, computer and business skills along with self-awareness. This helps improve their ability to get better job opportunities, resume school, connect with shelters and families. Moreover, the organization provides literacy lessons for those who do not know how to read and write. We need your experience in employability and turn ideas into a viable job or create jobs from surrounding challenges.
Additionally, we helped initiate a program that identifies children and young youth based on their talent or skill which will help them become employed and get off the streets.
We also assist in initiating activities such as talent shows where children and young youth can participate through musical performances as well as different sports like soccer with meeting with counselors to connect them to the applicable partners according to skill. The project helps collaborate with different organizations or companies, communities, and individuals to create a conducive environment for an apprenticeship to further develop their talents/skills.

2. Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Project
In order to contribute to girl’s empowerment, the organization focuses on education. Many teenage girls are not aware of how to handle their menstruation and often miss school due to discomfort or drop out due to pregnancy. This leaves them with lower education levels than their male counterparts, limiting prospects. To avoid that, the organization takes responsibility by implementing sex education courses in secondary schools to raise awareness and provide accurate information for students. We also aim to assist girls to prepare reusable and safe alternatives to use during menstruation. Girls without access to sanitary pads often miss three to four days of classes each month during menstruation, which adds up to 30 to 40 missed days per school year.
A volunteer will be involved in the following :
-Prepare lessons and facilitate in the school
-Conduct research or assessment when needed
- Provide mentorship among students
-Attend community meetings both in village and school
-Prepare a plan and report
-Train teachers and community
-Prepare monitoring tools for the projects
-Train staff on issues concerning gender, girls rights, Menstruation, sexual and reproductive rights education
Among other future projects we want to: (a) Build a youth learning center as well as a proper nursery place for children and (b) build volunteer houses.

In order to further develop, improve conditions, and maintain our place; we need immense help with fundraising and grants. We do a lot of work every day, but financial aid remains the biggest challenge.
We would truly appreciate the help of a volunteer who could come with new financing ideas, develop new partnerships or create a way for us to make money independently. Moreover, we need someone who can assist us in spreading awareness about our projects globally. If you have the willingness and/or experience with grant writing, fundraising, report writing, or if you know organizations, people, or businesses that could support us, come make a difference!
Volunteers are more than welcome to use their skills to contribute to our projects, especially within our Youth learning center program.
