Saskia stayed with us for a couple of weeks in October 2023 and I can only give her my very best feedback. It's really nice to have her around, she's spreading warmth and kindness, and she was ready and fit to perform any task asked for - and fast!, whilst being independent and managing herself when there was nobody around.

I couldn’t wish anything better for my first Workaway than to stay with Christiane and her family. I enjoyed my whole time there. I felt included and part of the family while staying there. And I really appreciate that. I learned a lot and exchanged some of the cultural differences. (Some of them, I am still doing today 😂)

… read more spring, I helped with cleaning, cooking, in the garden and even baking. Or other small tasks around the house. Because the tasks were clear and had a lot of flexibility, I got to discover a lot of Iceland too :) Together we made it work. Christiane is a very open-minded and welcoming person. Which I admire, making me feel at ease from the moment I started my stay there.
It was one of the best experiences I got to do and thank you for that.

It was so nice to stay at Christiane place for some time - I was gardening and doing some renovations around the house, harvesting icelandic rhubarb. The family is lovely and the place is very peaceful and calm, the house located near the village. Its ok if you want to explore icelandic countryside and lifestyle of the people - this what I wanted
… read more to do. Christiane is very cool person, accurate in time and tasks - this is very important quality as I always had the structure of the day and could know when I have time for myself.
2 dogs are good company for walking and beautiful icelandic horses roam around. The only one issue was the weather - very windy and rainy some time, so be ready for it!

Christiane has three adorable daughters -Luisa, Sole, Emma- and a son -Leo-, future mathematician. You don't have to be a Doctor of Psychology to realize that the 4 children lead a harmonious and happy life, with strong ties to their mother. The family also includes a very sweet old dog, Pady, who has the wisdom and delicacy to accompany the Workawayers in their work, sometimes for hours.
My stay in Hvolsvöllur gave me the opportunity to have a first –even, of course, still incomplete- vision of Iceland, a country with the best water I have ever drunk , a very clean air that blows almost constantly and a light in the beautiful skies, different from all the other lights that you can see in the world.
From my point of view, the biggest inconvenience for a Worawayer is the real difficulty of getting from Reykjavik airport (in Keflavik) to Christiane's house in Hvolsvöllur. The trip, of 150 km, cost me three bus changes, long waits and a total of 7 hours and a half to get there.
Despite that, a stay at Christiane’s home with her and her family is always worth it!

Their children are also lovely, creative and playful. All of them made me feel like a member of the family since the first day.
I had a great room at the guest house, with a lot of privacy, my own bathroom (sometime shared with guest), and good wifi. As I was there at winter time, my chores were all things to inside the house, as cleaning or tidying.
Awesome house to stay in Iceland. Really nice vibes all the time, and wonderful landscapes so close to the house.
I think that had staying here my experience in Iceland couldn't have been better!

I spent 3 weeks at the place of Christiane in September and I really miss my time there together with her lovely children, the dog and the horses and just a beautiful country. It was around 10 degrees but mostly dry weather so I was very lucky with that and could visit some beautiful places around, like the Westman
… read more islands, The Golden circle, Thorsmörk … Because of the dry weather, I could help with painting outside the house, some gardening, cleaning … An absolutely honest Workaway exchange and conversations with Christiane that inspired me a lot. … read more The familiy makes it very very easy to feel at home, they are very lively - there is always something going on and the kids are just lovely! I had a lot of fun with them, each of them has his own and special character and they are very well educated. Christiane is a wonderful person and host. She is a great mother, though, energetic and veeery kind. We had really nice and interesting conversations. She helped me planning my trips when I had questions. The work was not hard and Christiane was flexible with the working hours. Most of the time I helped in the house and with the kids, plus some gardening.
I had a room for myself, which was very comfortable and tidy. The environment in Hvolsvöllur has everything you need (supermarkets, bank, pharmacy, etc.). The bus stop can be reached on foot in a few minutes. From Hvolsvöllur you can really explore Iceland very well. But also in the immediate area you can make wonderful walks (with Buddy, the dog of the family, you are in very good company - the smartest and nicest dog I've ever met,). The landscape of Iceland is just breathtaking, I really fell in love with it. In Hvolsvöllur itself and in the area are also many other workawayers, I met three other girls and we spent a great time together.
