Our horse Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501 c 3 non-profit charity dedicated to saving horses.
We rescue horses from kill, rehabilitate and retrain them, and adopt them out to perfect homes. We also teach volunteers new to riding to create future good forever homes for horses.

I am a horsemaster. Volunteers could go home able to handle and improve pretty much any riding mount. I have years of experience in dressage (showed and won up to Prix St. Georges level on my own homebreds and on horses in training with me). I also put in years on the Thoroughbred racetracks, and have retrained many Thoroughbreds for foxhunting (current member in good standing, I earned colors with local Hunt). I also played varsity polo back in college (back in the day!) and trained polo ponies for many years. Now my knees are bad, but my mind is as sharp, and my hands are as soft, as ever.

We are a 501 c 3 non-profit charity. We could use a fit person with some riding experience to be the first on the backs of our Curlies and BLM Mustangs. We also can always use relatively unskilled help repairing fences, cleaning tack, planting trees and flowers. Or someone tech savvy to update website, post ads, apply for grants, etc., on computer. Even house cleaning would be great -- we have five rescued house dogs, too! So you can't mind a little dog hair, paw prints, or chewed-up dog toys that always seem to be littering the living room floor!

If you don't have much horse experience, we are happy to teach you, as we have several horses that are fairly "bomb proof". But our preference is for riders already well-skilled simply because they are then able to improve the horses so that they can promptly find their "forever" homes, and we can rescue more in place of those -- there is such a crying need for rescue!

We work hard but we always save time for fun.

We have one spare bedroom with a double bed, shared bath and kitchen. We also have a camper which sleeps six parked in the back yard. So, one workawayer can stay in the house with us, the other (or a couple or a family) can stay in the camper. We are a couple in our 60s. We have a router so you can have your own wi fi access. We are located on a 16 acre farm halfway between Joplin and Springfield, MO along Old Route 66, smack in the middle of the scenic Ozarks. We also have a hot tub outside on the deck to soothe away sore muscles after a long ride! Plus -- the best for last -- my husband is a Master Chef. Having a volunteer here usually induces him to do some cooking!

We are only a little over an hour from Branson, MO which is a big tourist spot. There are lots of beautiful national parks in northern Arkansas with caves and waterfalls and the like. There are lots of casinos in eastern Oklahoma. And quirky little museums like Big Brutus in eastern KS. We are called the "Four States" area because all are so close.
