  We are looking for volunteer help at our remote property in Port Renfrew, BC. We have a 2.5 acre tidal riverfront unique property in which we live and operate a recreational RV fishing camp.We are a small family that live an outgoing laid-back lifestyle, as do the other ~6 year-round residents of our property.

  Port Renfrew is an eclectic small village on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. We are located about 2 kilometers from the village on a tidal estuary with a dock and boats in our front yard. A 400 meter boat ride will take you out into the bay, or you can stay within river channels and see the rainforest from a rarely seen perspective. This would be a great opportunity for people who would like to go boating as we will offer you a trip on our larger motorboat to go out crabbing/fishing/whale watching during your stay or if you like there is a canoe and rowboat always available for use for river exploring. This is a great place to come to experience the forest and ocean. You will probably meet some hippies, rednecks and a little of everything in between.

  Arbeit

  We are looking for help with a wide range of activities. Firewood splitting and stacking are activities we are doing much of during the fall. We also have lots of general yard maintenance such as leave raking, weeding and garden building, brush clearing and fencing. We also some have interior and exterior house cleaning work available. We are also doing renovations to our 130 year old cabin that is the oldest structure in Port Renfrew. Expect rain, fog and damp conditions, appropriate clothing and footwear for this should be brought with you. We do have some raingear and rubber boots available in limited sizes for you to use.

  We have a small travel trailer that is cozy and best suited for a couple or 2 persons travelling together. It is heated and has basic cooking amenities, as well as a small TV with a built in VHS player and a bunch of old movies to watch if you like. You get a wifi signal there too. There is a new shower/washroom building outside near your trailer that is shared with others, but private when in use by you. We will provide you with food to cook and/or share some meals with you. We are not vegetarians. Laundry is available.

  There is no cell phone service in Port Renfrew and no bus transportation to or around town. We can arrange to pick you up in Duncan or Victoria for your stay. We have bicycles for your use. There is a general store, a pub and two cafes. Port Renfrew is the tall tree capital of Canada. The West Coast Trail and Juan De Fuca trail both start/end in Port Renfrew. Avatar Grove, Sombrio Beach and Botanical Beach are all close enough for us to drop you off for a day hike on your spare time. There is a 2km long white sand beach walking distance from our house. It would be worth your time to look up Port Renfrew before you come to see what places you would be most interested in visiting during your stay. Our first workawayers did a great day hike where we dropped them off 10K down the Juan De Fuca trail at an access point and they spent the day walking the trail to Botanical Beach where we picked them up in the evening.
