Jordan and Jordan were wonderful Workaways and a pleasure to host. They were always happy to help and had many skills to share. They know how to work independently as well as in a group plus were enjoyable and positive company round the dinner table. My partner and I spent a fantastic 2 weeks with Alvin and Nike. They made us feel very at home from the moment we arrived with a delicious meal and very comfortable accommodation. We had some great chats, lovely meals and fun movie nights. Both Alvin and Nike are both really interesting people to talk to.
The work was very physical but

Overall, we ate extremely well, surrounded with good company, and had a most enjoyable experience! Thanks again Alvin and Nike we hope to come back at some stage during our travels.

Staying at the old converted village inn felt like such a fairytale. Each room holds its own feeling, different color palettes throughout each one. It’s amazing how much attention to detail and style went into all of the rooms.
After the first week of demoing the old stone walls, I moved inside to work on the ceiling of Alvin and Nike’s loft. I learned how to use gold leaf to transform the ceiling. At times the trip felt like an apprenticeship, which I appreciated. I was able to leave Bouriege with new found skills and interests. :-)
I had a wonderful week with Alvin and Nike. This was my first Workaway experience but I think ended up in the best place.
That week seemed like a month. I really felt like a member of the family. Nike prepared magical dinners, which we enjoyed with a candlelit dinner. I was never bored, we always went somewhere in the area. There are loads of

Staying with Alvin and Nike was one of the greatest experiences that we had. We stayed there for 2 weeks and helped them to digg out stones, bring lots of earth to their little garden and built walls. They are both really interesting people with lots of stories and advices. We started mostly 9:30 and between work we had a coffee break around 11:00
… read more and lunch at 13:00. After that we had enough time for our self's. We always cooked together, which was really nice because we learned there lots of recepies. It felt like beeing in a big family and we loved it there really much! On the weekends we went together to markets, visit Carcasonne, which is really near, or hiked a little bit.
Alvin and Nike always tried to give us a familiar and friendly atmosphere, which we really enjoyed.
We miss it already although the work is hard but we enjoyed it!

The are is beautiful for walks - nice hills full of vineyards. Both Elvin and Nick are very interesting people to talk with and exchange ideas. When Alvin picked us up with is blue converted Morris minor the magic began...
We spent almost three weeks in Bouriège. They were so patient with us being in quarantine for ten
… read more days and fed us the best food and treats.
After that it was a nice mixture between work and freetime... probably much more freetime than work though.
On the worksite we helped Alvin to renovate an old stone house and he showed us all his skills. It was physically hard work but still fun. With Nike we prepared their other houses for AirBnB guests. Next to that we watered the garden and helped cooking or set the table.
The food was amazing! Always freshly cooked with vegetables from the garden. For dinner we ate at a long white table on a balcony with candles and the best food and wine, watching the sun set with an amazing view.
Alvin and Nike are not just interested in your workingpower. They truly care for you as a person and in exchanging the cultures. They share their music, recipes and movies and are open for anything you show them.
They take you to markets and flewmarkets or they go out with you into bars or winetasting. They make sure that you'll have a wonderful time.
Alvin is probably the funniest guy and able to tell jokes in any language and Nike is the warmest and most caring host.
Both have a surreal biography and when they tell stories about their life it feels like reading a book or watching a movie.
There are so many opportunities where you could sleep and every room or house will be beautiful with many details and self-made pictures or sculptures from Alvin.
Bouriège is a small village with one café and a post office. You can do beautiful hikes along the vineyards and they'll lend you bikes to go to the next cities.
So if you want to spend a wonderful summer in the south of France come to Bouriège!!

Aside from all the help, Karlyn and Roeland were good company. We enjoyed our meals together, movie nights and of course Belgian Stump.
Any host will be lucky to have them, and we hope they will visit us again soon.

We got on really wel with each other and Nike and Alvin have a lot of stories to tell, they are also very social, so you will undoubtedly meet a lot of new, interesting people.
Now for the food, there is a lot of it and it's all unbelievably delicious. Alvin is a wizard in the kitchen and when he does his hair before he starts to cook, you know shit's about to get real.

When a workaway comes, they have to stay isolated in a room for one day and do a PCR test in the next morning, in order for everyone to be save.
During my stay, I worked with the other 4 workaways and Alvin on the construction site. We replastered old stone walls, wearing masks against the dust.
The reason, why I left earlier was that I had communication problems with Alvin. I felt like there was inappropriate rudeness on the worksite. I would wish for future workaways, that the host would consider what his acts and words make others feel like. For me the work task was mostly building and fixing up things. Lots of various projects to do, plus If you had an idea of something to make/fix, were he always open.

Alvin is also a great cook! Normally he picked two from the team to help him prepare/make the food, and it was always cozy and learn full.
Unfortunately I only had a coffee with Nike, and didn't get the chance to live with her, but she seems very sweet as well.
In the end we had a team on 8 persons, which made the days pass by unnoticed. I'm so gratefull for meeting these amazing people!

From the first moment we sent them message, they were super helpful.
By the time we arrive to Alvin and Nike's home, they had the house full but we were introduced to Chris, a friend and neighbor who also needed help and we stayed at his house for a week. But every day we dined

The food and atmosphere at the table were absolutely amazing.
Then we started sleeping in their house and helping them with different tasks, but mainly helping Alvin in the restoration of the house "Francois" and it was always very productive and fun to work with him. He is a super educated person, full of energy and with an excellent sense of humor. He also taught me (Carlos) a lot and guided me in the "photography" theme.
Nike is an intelligent woman, always with a smile on her face and genuinely kind.
Before we left, and without a place to go, they helped us again and spoke with a couple friend who own a hotel on top of a hill in the same village, and we went there to help in the hotel and with the sheep that they have.
Nike and Alvin are two extraordinary human beings, who have provided us an wonderful unforgettable experience for 3 months and also meet fantastic people and create friendships.

And after work hour, they allow us to use the swimming pool.

… read more culture. Everyone would cook together, under the healm of Nike's brilliant tuition, then eat together either outside or in one of their amazing dining rooms. They were also very understanding of my dietary needs, a blessing when you are away from home. In my spare time I had full use of the pool, go for long walks picking cherries, ride bikes or go for day trips to Carcasonne or Narbonne, with Nike and Alvin always on hand for advice and directions! Being with Alvin and the other workawayers was a great joyful time, full of delicious homemade meals we ate together, nice movie nights on a big projector, monopoly evenings and daytrips on the weekend. We had a very luxurious room just for us including even a bathtub and were free to jump in the pool whenever we felt like we need a cold shock.
