We are a young family building an organic smallholding from scratch. Under the watchful eye of the Serra da Estrella we are working with the land to create a future for our family and a community that thrives, learns and grows together. We live a simple and creative life, valuing music, art, laughter and connection. In the summer we take regular trips out to river beaches and to gather with friends. We have animals (both domestic and livestock), a veg garden, various building and infrastructure jobs and a toddler to educate and entertain. If you stay with us there will always be a variety of jobs to get stuck into. We are close to a small village, a river, a market and a mountain, plus we are surrounded by beautiful indigenous forests so free time can be fun and varied without too much traveling. We are looking for interesting and interested people. Positive and open minded, motivated and enthusiastic, we believe everyone has something to share and through joining together we all grow.

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

We live in an incredibly beautiful area on the edge of a national park and live as much as possible in tune with the natural cycles and traditional way of life that exists here. Local people, permaculture principles, our vibrant immigrant community, contemporary technology and the land around us are our teachers. Our work as care takers of the land is part of a massive global shift to a slower, simpler, more sustainable way of living that respects and nurtures the earth instead of exploiting it. Come here to experience an unplugged, seasonal existence, root yourself in nature, and be part of the new movement of creative young farmers helping restore and protect this unique region.

  • Arbeit

We have animals and a small but ever growing garden to tend plus various out buildings to design and build. We share cooking and washing up duties equally with full support if needed. As with any farm, general maintenance and tidying regularly rears it’s ugly ( and boring) head but we always try to get it done and out of the way together. We try as much as we can to consider the ecological impact of all our jobs. Weighing them up against what we can afford, and effectiveness, and ideas are always welcome. As creatives ourselves, we want to encourage our workawayers to feel free to be creative and leave there mark where appropriate.
Currently we are working in the house building stud walls, stairs, insulating the roof and putting in first fix plumbing.
As for outside the house we need help building a compost toilet and solar shower block for visitors and building ponds, swales, and water tanks for water saving. There is also space for child care, inspiring , teaching and playing with our two year old son Elias.

  • Unterkunft

We have dormitory style accommodation in a large canvas bell tent for workawayers, with shared outdoor compost toilet and shower close by. We have a bit of space so if people want to bring tents and have a bit more privacy they are welcome.

Meals are mainly vegetarian, we eat good portions of simple seasonal food and can adapt to dietary requirements if necessary.
