At the end of 2010, in Brazil, Bahia, 4 km from Lençoís, on the banks of Ribeirão, I acquired a plot of 8,000 m² with a small dilapidated house.
With the help of local workers and, since 2015, with the help of travelers who have come to me through "workaway", over the years not only the house has been redeveloped, but also another Cabana unit on the eastern edge of the lagoon has also succeeded in expanding the existing tree population (mango, jacka, pitanga, acerola, jenipapo etc.) with citrus plants, cocoa, acai, cupuaçu, pineapple, bananas, papaya, coffee and aloe, and to build a foil house for seeds.
Currently, only about ¼ of the property is farmed. This is i.a. due to the fact that I have been due to visa and residence regulations so far only for max. Was allowed to stay in Brazil for 6 months. Now that I have a permanent residence permit, it can really get started. I will fly to Salvador in September 2019 and plan to enjoy and expand my oasis by the end of May 2020.
Ende 2010 habe ich in Brasilien, Bahia, 4 km von Lençoís entfernt, am Ufer des Ribeirão, ein 8.000 m² großes Grundstück mit einem kleinen baufälligen Häuschen erworben.
Mit Hilfe von einheimischen Arbeitskräften und seit 2015 auch mit Unterstützung von Reisenden, die über „workaway“ zu mir gefunden haben, wurde über die Jahre nicht nur das Haus saniert und eine weitere Wohneinheit, die Cabana, am östlichen Rand der Lagune geschaffen, sondern es ist auch gelungen, den bestehenden Baumbestand (Mango, Jacka, Pitanga, Açerola, Jenipapo etc.) mit Zitruspflanzen, Kakao, Açai, Cupuaçu, Ananas, Bananen, Papaya, Kaffee und Aloe zu erweitern und ein Folienhaus für Sämereien zu errichten.
Derzeit wird nur ca. ¼ des Grundstücks bewirtschaftet. Dies ist u.a. dem Umstand geschuldet, dass ich mich aufgrund von Visa- und Aufenthaltsbestimmungen bislang nur für max. 6 Monate in Brasilien aufhalten durfte. Nachdem ich jetzt eine permanente Aufenthaltsgenehmigung habe, kann es so richtig losgehen. Ich fliege im September 2019 nach Salvador und habe vor, bis Ende Mai 2020 meine Oase zu genießen und weiter auszubauen.

Unterkunft
The house and the cabana are powered by photovoltaic systems (12 V and 220 V). The pumps for water extraction from the Ribeirão work with 12 V. Internet reception is given. I can not offer WiFi. I use a Brazilian chip for my phone and a modem for my laptop. The water from the river is filtered. Shared kitchen, shower and toilet available (compost toilet in planning). The house offers 4 - 6 beds, the cabana 2 - 3, tents is possible.
The property is reachable on foot via an off-road run from Lençoís in 20 minutes. Mototaxis require about 15 reais. Several buses leave from Lençoís daily for Seabra (75 km, the nearest major city for shopping) and Salvador, Feira Santana, hub for bus and air travel. Hotels offer shuttles to the nearest airport (25 km). Lençoís has approximately 10,000 inhabitants and offers tourists and locals sufficient infrastructure: Banco do Brasil, post office, library, hospital, dentists, supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, lots of restaurants, pousadas and trekking agencies, crafts, festivals. Monday and Friday is market day.
Das Haus und die Cabana werden durch Photovoltaikanlagen mit Strom versorgt (12 V und 220 V). Die Pumpen zur Wassergewinnung aus dem Ribeirão arbeiten mit 12 V. Internetempfang ist gegeben. WLan kann ich nicht bieten. Ich nutze für mein Handy einen brasilianischen Chip und für meinen Laptop ein Modem. Das Wasser aus dem Fluss wird gefiltert. Gemeinschaftsküche, Dusche und WC vorhanden (Kompostklo in Planung). Das Haus bietet 4 - 6 Schlafplätze, die Cabana 2 – 3, Zelten ist möglich.
Das Grundstück ist über eine Off-Road-Piste von Lençoís zu Fuß in 20 Minuten erreichbar. Mototaxis verlangen ca. 15 Reais. Von Lençoís aus fahren mehrmals täglich Busse nach Seabra (75 km, nächst größere Stadt, um Einkäufe zu tätigen) und Salvador, Feira Santana, Knotenpunkte für Bus- und Flugreisen. Hotels bieten Shuttles zum nächsten Flugplatz (25 km). Lençoís hat ca. 10.000 Einwohner und bietet Touristen und Einheimischen ausreichende Infrastruktur: Banco do Brasil, Postamt, Bücherei, Hospital, Zahnärzte, Supermärkte, Bäckereien, Metzgereien, jede Menge Restaurants, Pousadas und Trekking-Agenturen, Kunsthandwerk, Festivals. Montag und Freitag ist Markttag.

Lençoís is a small, historic, colorful, bustling city that originated during the diamond mining season and now serves as a base for trekking tours into the Chapada Diamantina.
20 min. The river leads to Ribeirão do meio (20 m long natural water slide). From there you can go on further tours or continue towards Lençoís. The agencies offer guided tours in the National Park, the Chapada Diamantina, for 2 - 6 days. On request and in consultation I can arrange a German guide and masseur.
In a southerly direction you can reach Roncador (15 km) to Andarai (30 km) and cross 7 rivers. On horseback a fantastic tour.
Vale de Capão and Vale de Pati can be hiked from Lençoís.
Lençoís ist eine kleine, historische, bunte, quirlige Stadt, die in der Diamantenschürfzeit entstanden ist und nun als Ausgangspunkt für Trekkingtouren in die Chapada Diamantina dient.
20 min. Flussauf gelangt man zu Ribeirão do meio (20 m lange natürliche Wasserrutsche). Von dort aus kann man zu weiteren Touren aufbrechen oder Richtung Lençoís weitergehen. Die Agenturen bieten geführte Touren im Nationalpark, der Chapada Diamantina, für 2 – 6 Tage an. Auf Wunsch und in Absprache kann ich einen deutschen Guide und Masseur vermitteln.
In südlicher Richtung gelangt man über Roncador (15 km) bis nach Andarai (30 km) und quert dabei 7 Flüsse. Zu Pferde eine phantastische Tour.
Vale de Capão und Vale de Pati können von Lençoís aus erwandert werden.

It is a beautiful place, at the boarder of the national park. We slept in the awesome cabana, with view and direct access to the river. There are many great places for swimming and the garden is full of fresh fruits.
