My name is Charlie, I´ve been living here in Pavones for just over a year now. I instantly fell in love with the perfect waves and charming little community - surrounded by dense green jungle and glittering emerald sea. I saw the potential to start my dream business here in Pavones. 10 brothers and one sister were the previous owners and after a family gathering, they agreed to sell their delapidated cabinas - located right in the heart of Pavones. After 10 months of tough rennovation work, my team and I were able to transform, and finally open. I have big dreams for my business. My vision is to open hostels all over the world - where visitors can engage in sports, local projects, and learning opportunities together - all in a comfortable and secure environment.
I have a quite a fresh and unique business model. I want to share 20% of the profits by supporting social and eco projects in the local community that encourage positive change. I do enjoy helping others and feeling like my efforts are to the benefit of others, and I also think that creating a more socially responsible business model will encourage future business with customers that wish to stay in community that really cares about people, and not one that is just geared toward maximum profit. I am full of gratitude for the privilege I have recieved in my life, and I want to share it where possible.
Our small and friendly team is made up of Nicole, Yuri, and myself. I met Nicole a year ago and I knew instantly I wanted to work with her! Thankfully after ten months of rennovation work and the hostel opened, she remembered my job offer! She is a lovely and very intelligent 23 year old Tica who is learning to manage the hostel, and who also helps with making sure everything is fresh and clean. I have a dedicated cleaning lady called Yuri. Yuri is a very hard worker and is a newer, but vital member of our team.

Pavones is a unique little community in the corner of Costa Rica, surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty and the best waves in the country.
Pavones is unique in that it is quite isolated, and is still very much a tico community, and therefore less touristic than many of the other spots in the country. It feels like it´s a bit stuck in the 1950´s, with horses roaming around the roads and parks, and cattle getting driven by horse and rider. Therefore it is a very interesting place to be and you´ll certainly have a genuine experience.
If you want to learn to surf and learn some Spanish, this is one of the best places to do so. I used to be a Spanish teacher and I´m happy to partake in some Spanish lessons for you.

Arbeit
Here our workawayers do four shifts a week, each shift being five hours long. We are really looking for a minimum of a month long stay
Our shifts are mostly tranquilo and as we are a quite cozy hostel with only seven rooms, you´ll not be rushing about the place in a fret.
You´ll be keeping watch in reception to make sure any guests can check in, also to observe that the shared areas, and kitchen stays clean. For example, in the kitchen sometimes guests don´t remember to clean up after themselves and may need reminding. You might need to clean the surfaces down. The floor and stairs might need to be swept. The two shared toilets will need a check. This is all simple stuff and nothing demanding, to ensure the place stays nice and clean. The cleaning tasks may make up about 30 minutes of a five hour shift, and will be simple to follow. Yuri and Nicole will do the harder task of deep cleaning everything when necessary. The whole place just needs to look like someone loves it :)
As for check ins - your shifts will mostly be in the evening - therefore you might have a couple of check ins that come in to Pavones on the evening bus from Golfito.
Other than that it´s quite a pura vida lifestyle, and you can hang out with the guests, chill in a hammock, cook your own food if you like, play table tennis, read - or anything else to your hearts desire - as long as you´ve got an eye on the place!
If you happen to be good at arts or DIY, then perhaps we can negotiate less shifts or shorter shifts as there are plenty of opportunities to bring character and life to the hostel, and we would really appreciate your help to continue to make this place as cozy as possible.

Unterkunft
Our volunteer room fits just two people and there is plenty of space to store your stuff, and we have metal lockers in your rooms for your valuables. The showers are nice, clean and spacey and we have hot water! some might call that a bit rambunctious in a sweaty Costa Rica but I think it´s refreshing after a sunset surf.
The beds have new thick matresses, plushy pillows and quality sheets, and you´ll have your own reading light and fan.

Other than one of the finest waves in the world on our front doorstep, there are amazing places to explore and discover, beautiful trails and rivers to walk up. There are so many beautiful deserted beaches to walk! And there are other excellent waves to surf and especially good beginner spots that are within walking distances. I´m happy to lend you my motorbike if you want to go and explore a spot.
You´re invited to join in with the group activities we´re doing such as beach cleanups, surfing, running and yoga.
