  Welcome to our small, lovingly run animal shelter, currently home to around 19 dogs and 35 cats – all rescued and taken in with lots of love and care.
  
  Our shelter is located in a peaceful, natural setting surrounded by greenery. The dogs are able to move freely around the property and are not permanently kept in cages or kennels. The number of animals changes from time to time, as some of our lovely residents find their forever homes while new animals arrive in need of rescue and care.
  
  🐶🐱 Your Tasks as a Volunteer
  
  As a volunteer, you will become an important part of our small team and help us with the daily care and wellbeing of our animals.
  
  Your tasks may include:
  
  Feeding and lovingly caring for the dogs and cats
  
  Cleaning sleeping areas, animal areas and shared spaces
  
  Helping with socialisation and basic training, especially with the dogs
  
  Assisting with basic treatments, such as giving medication, deworming tablets or other necessary treatments
  
  Taking photos and videos of our animals for adoption profiles and social media, helping them have a better chance of finding a loving forever home
  
  There are also always small maintenance, practical tasks and some garden tasks to be done around the property, shelter and house. If you are handy or enjoy practical work, your help will be especially appreciated.
  
  🏡 Accommodation
  
  During your stay, you will live in a separate guest house.
  
  The house has two rooms, a kitchen and bathroom upstairs, as well as an additional toilet downstairs.
  
  Depending on availability, you may share the house with another volunteer.
  
  Wi-Fi is available.
  
  A small financial contribution towards groceries will be provided.
  
  The peaceful surroundings, greenery and closeness to nature make this a very special place to stay. There are also two beautiful beaches nearby, where you can relax, enjoy the sea and spend your free time. Just 10 Minutes by Car
  
  💛 Who We Are Looking For
  
  We are looking for people who genuinely love animals and are ready to take responsibility.
  
  You should:
  
  Be at least 22 years old
  
  Be a genuine animal lover
  
  Have some experience with dogs and cats, or at least a good understanding of how to interact with them
  
  Be reliable, responsible and willing to help wherever needed
  
  Not mind getting your hands dirty
  
  Be comfortable getting up early and helping with the daily routine
  
  Be physically fit and enjoy spending time outdoors
  
  Be open-minded, friendly, easy-going and respectful
  
  Be able to think independently and use common sense
  
  Enjoy being part of a small team
  
  Our animals are friendly and generally easy to handle. Nevertheless, we are looking for volunteers who treat them with patience, calmness and respect.
  
  🚗 Driving Licence
  
  A valid driving licence is required.
  
  An older manual car is available for necessary trips. Volunteers are responsible for their own fuel costs.
  
  🌿 Minimum Stay & Living Together
  
  The minimum stay is one month.
  
  Longer stays are especially welcome, as they give you the opportunity to truly get to know our animals – and allow them to become comfortable and familiar with you as well.
  
  Our shelter is a place of peace, care and responsibility. Drugs and excessive alcohol consumption are not welcome here.
  
  Mature adults are welcome too! Age doesn't matter, as long as you genuinely love animals and are willing to lend a helping hand. We're looking for people who want to make a difference, not just enjoy a free holiday.

  A little about me.
  I have a deep need to help animals in need. I function mainly with my heart rather than my brain. This leads me to times when I feel exhausted and burnt out. That is why I need help with the animal routine.
  
  I have been a volunteer myself since my twenties and I know what it takes to be one. During my life as a volunteer I helped raise awareness of primary school children about animals and the environment, I helped at the wildlife hospital on Aegina, I was their representative in my area, I gave first aid to wild animals and I made sure they arrived safely at the hospital for treatment. I was one of the two founders of the Wildlife Hospital "Alkyon" on Paros island, which still runs today.
  
  I am a member of the local animal welfare society, ZAP and I am part of a network of volunteers who feed and water stray animals.
  
  I do not profit, nor am I paid for my service to animals. On the contrary I pay for their medical expenses, medicine and food myself. I run a program of virtual adoptions so I can get some financial help with veterinary expenses but that still needs to take off.
  
  South Pelion is a unique and beautiful area. It is very green and lush. Beautiful beaches are just 1.5 m away. There are lots of nature walks around the area, lots of wild flowers for the floral enthusiasts. There may be skiing in winter a mount Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs of Greek Mythology, which is about an hour from here.
