Update: We would love some help in the garden - digging, weeding, raking, sweeping and general tidying. If it rains, we will continue the work to insulate our attic.
We; Nik 57yrs (English/German) and Donna (New Zealander) have renovated a run-down farmhouse and outbuildings on 1/2 acre in Northern France - the project is almost finished but there is always something to do :)
Nik is a potter by trade and also an experienced builder, Donna worked in IT and teaches english - but would rather be in the garden, cooking or doing handcraft.
We both work part-time and we have guest accommodation (B&B and small holiday cottage) onsite.
We have been Workaway hosts since 2012, we have hosted over 130 people and we really enjoy meeting a huge variety of travellers from all around the world - we learn as much from our guests as they do from us :)
** Please read our entire profile so you understand the area and the work we do. **
We have an extensive garden that always needs care and we keep chickens. And we have 2 cats and 2 dogs (puppies in 2024). We eat well from the garden, and love to process our own produce.
This part of France is charming and unspoiled - but local transport is not easy. There are no major tourist sites nearby (unless you have a car). We are in the countryside, 5kms from a small town with cafes and shops. It is possible to rent bikes at the local Tourist office, or borrow ours if we are not using them. We will try to include you in anything social we are doing, and to visit the beach at the weekend - but of course, we cannot guarantee this, so you need to happy in a rural space and willing to entertain yourself if necessary :)
On arrival, we can collect you from a nearby Train station.
Our life is a combination of self-sufficiency, good living and utter chaos! If you want to experience a different culture and maybe learn some new skills, we would benefit greatly from your help and enthusiasm!Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

We have both worked in different countries and many different jobs, we are open-minded and love good discussions. We don’t aim to pass on any particular skills - but we have rebuilt our house and garden from scratch and will openly share everything we have learned (good and bad!). We like to consider workawayer as an opportunity where we we can mutually learn from each other, particularly in simply understanding and accepting different cultures and all the nuances of humanity.
Arbeit
The main qualities we require from our workawayers are enthusiasm and a good sense of humour! :D
And a willingness to undertake physical work for 4-5 hours a day (20-25 hours per week).
Please note that most of the tasks are physical, often dirty - but hopefully always rewarding. We don't ask you to do any tasks that we wouldn't undertake ourselves. If the weather is good, there is always work to be done in the garden and sweeping paths. Sometimes limewashing, moving firewood, clearing rubbish. On rainy days, cleaning or insulating our attic.
As our project progresses, the help we need is becoming less exciting and more tedious maintenance. We will do our best to make your time as varied as possible and we will try to work with you, or have another workawayer with you - however, we both have part-time jobs so we can't always guarantee this.
We eat together for lunch and dinner and we like to socialise with our guests most evenings - that said, you are also very welcome to do your own thing.Gesprochene Sprachen

We have a separate bedroom (2 single beds) for our workawayers (not in the house so a short walk to a bathroom) or in colder months, we turn our lounge into a bedroom. We share meals and downtime with our workawayers in the main house.

In all cases, do please get in touch because the situation can quickly change.
No previous skill required, just a willingness to muck in and learn on the job.
We are 1-1.5 hours from Calais & Boulogne, and the same distance from Paris by train - so we make an ideal first stop if you are planning to explore more of France.Etwas mehr Information

We have a private courtyard you can park in with access to water and electricity - but as we also host paying guests in our holiday accommodation, we can only accept workawayers with motorhomes off-season. During the summer weeks, we have to save the parking for our guests.
Hier sind Haustiere in der Regel willkommen
Potentially... let's discuss. We have dogs, cats and chickens that all live together peacefully, so your pet would need to be willing to join the pack and be kind to all these species :)
