We are a fun and sociable backpackers’ hostel looking for enthusiastic individuals with a positive attitude. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or in a group, you’re welcome to apply!
International travelers love staying here and enjoy our warm, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Many describe it as a "home away from home." We love hearing your stories and exchanging cultural experiences. Check us out on Facebook and Instagram!
Our Backpackers is a truly unique building with a rich history, requiring thoughtful care to restore its lost charm. It is located just 100 meters from the town center and the local supermarket, making it super convenient. Greymouth is also a gateway to many fantastic tourist attractions, such as:
- Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks)
- Paparoa Great Walk
- Lake Brunner
- Wilderness Cycle Trail
The Work:
2,5 to 3 hours, 5 days a week
from approx 10am as housekeepers.
Remuneration is in a form of:
- Accommodation with a west-facing balcony to enjoy stunning sunsets
- Food
- Free Wi-Fi
- Free laundry facilities
- Free use of bikes and fishing rods
We ask for a minimum stay of 14 days. Of course, the longer you’re available, the better it would be for us.

My 3 week stay here was really wonderful. The hostel and its owners make you feel incredibly homely. The accomodation is very nice, especially the possibility to watch beautiful sunset on the balcony. And as a little extra they have got an amazing dog and the best music.

Harry and Lynda were friendly and they have a really relaxed and fun hostel. The other workawayers were awesome company too. It's a really nice location to relax and I wish I had spent longer there (so will have to go back sometime)

Matt and Myrie were fantastic hosts! They made me feel so welcome! The hostel is beautiful and the effort that went into it really shows! The work is fair and you have plenty of time to explore! There are some lovely walks in the area and Bez the dog is more than happy to join you! Thanx again both! Great workaway!

Matt and Myrie are great, down to earth hosts. I had a great time staying with them and meeting a lot of people in the hostel. The hostel overall had a very cosy feel and was so neat, I especially loved seeing Bez and Jess around. Thank you guys for the experience!

This is a good place to stay, we really enjoyed the garden, the pool and the big kitchen as well as the lovingly furbished animal rooms. Our tasks where clearly structured and easily done. Thank you for the time there!
