We are a family of three, in our late thirties and 16 years old. We have full time jobs (school) but also run a smallholding in Northern Norway. We have hosted several exchange students from all over the world, and we love getting to know new people and cultures. Kristin works with kids and Ole has an officejob. We always have some project going on the farm, in the summermonths now its pretty crazy, in the wintertime it slows down.
We produce different products, yarn/felted things from the fibers from Alpacas and Mohair goats. We are hoping to get a market garden established this summer. We will be making biochar for our garden. We have small painting jobs, fencing, planting berry trees/vegetables. We have a open farm every sunday for the locals, but will also arrange open farm days for tourists, walking the alpacas and the farmstore will be open every day during the summer months (jun/jul/aug).

We live in the wild and beautiful Vesterålen, next to Lofoten, and just as pretty. When living on our farm you will take part in the everyday life of Northern Norway, we get our fish straight from the boat on the docks (or fish it ourself) we prepare our food the same way my grandmother did, we grow our own vegetables and produce our own meat. For the animals we prepare hay the same way its always been done here, we also collect and dry leaves for them. You can go hunting for grouse or moose or you can fish for salmon. We are nestled between mountains and on the oceanfront so you can go hiking or kayaking pretty much from your doorstep.
We are mainly looking for people with experience in building/maintenance, arts and crafts, gardening or permaculture, some experience with animals would be good, but we can also teach you what you need to know.
You have to be able to work individually and with others, you are a fast learner, keen to do some physical work and meet the world with a can-do attitude.
The help will include taking care of the animals and different building projects, fencing, making dry hay and leaves, managing the vegetable garden and helping out with getting the rental house ready for tourists and sometimes you might have to mind the farmstore.
Our pigs are freerange and we receive fruit and vegetables for them from local stores, that means we a couple of times a week have to sort thu fruit/vegetables where some are spoilt/rotten, the stuff too bad for the animals go to the worm compost, if you are sensitive to smell or dirt this is not the place for you :)
English and Norwegian (Ole claims to know german but german exchangestudent does not agree:)
We have a good sized rental house with five bedrooms that some of the time will be rented out, when it is you will have a bedroom in our house and be part of our household, when it is not you can stay in the rentalhouse and for the most part cook for youself. There is tv/internet connection in both houses.
We live about 11 km away from the farm, in the town centre.
Time off is best spent exploring the region, its an eldorado for all kinds of outdoor activities. VisitVesterålen is a site packed with information about Vesterålen and things to do here, Lofoten is an hour away by car, you can also go there by bus or costal ferry (hurtigruten).
We love to be outdoors, be tourists in our own region. The farm and all the animals means we rarely get to travel away for more than a day or two. The neighbourhood is friendly and including. The farm is 12 minutes from Sortland a town of 10.000 inhabitants that has everything you may need.
