Kia ora! I’m Tayla, a 27 year old female from Aotearoa, New Zealand. After an eventful six months petsitting around New Zealand, to solo backpacking South East Asia for the next three months, I’m now back working the winter season on a tiny, remote place called Stewart Island, saving up for my big move to Ireland in the future. As I prepare for that journey, I hope to use Workaway to connect with friendly locals and find meaningful opportunities for when I arrive so I can really immerse myself in the culture and learn from those who know the place best. Nearly ten years ago, I did a working holiday in the UK, and now I’m excited to return to that side of the world, with fresh eyes, more life experience, and an open mind. However, in saying that, I am also happy to explore opportunities first in other countries from September (specifically Australia and South East Asia) as I’m always open to new experiences and connections as well as not being limited on time.

I adore connecting with and helping genuine people of a similar mindset who love deep conversations, adventure and above all kindness. Some things that make life feel euphoric to me is the smell of fresh rain, the time after sunset when the sky is dark but the earth is a fading yellow hue and watching a kid on the train offer his seat to an elderly lady. Really just anything involving beauty in the unexpected and imperfect. I am motivated by the Latin phrase “carpe diem”. I know it is cliché and can be difficult overcoming my anxiety at times but in my heart, seizing the day and little opportunities is how I give meaning to life. With the extended phrase translating to “Trusting as little as possible in tomorrow” - really a wake up call to stop feeling trapped in the mundane & to abandon my job, uni and family/friends (for now) to follow a feeling that I need to solo explore and navigate life in a foreign continent for a bit.
