Travel buddy
I have studied and made art for most of my adult life. Simple, subtle things in life amuse me, and I cherish silence and solitude—the cheerful, peaceful kind, not the anguished one. At the same time, I welcome conversations that broaden my horizons, though I try to avoid those that lead to empty debates. While I am spontaneous, I also value order and discipline. I am “okay” with parties, but I prefer low-key gatherings. I care for animals and plants as much as I do for humans. I try to remember that we all come from the universe. Although I don’t belong to any religious group, I believe there is a certain order to things. Being aware of something beyond human comprehension helps me resist anthropocentrism and remain humble about my existence. I am interested in yoga and meditation, though I am not a dedicated practitioner. For me, dancing is a form of meditation. I am well-traveled. I was born in South Korea and moved to Canada when I was young. After 13 years in Canada, I moved to London, England, where I lived for 6 years while studying. During that time, I visited countries in Western Europe and Scandinavia. One of my most memorable experiences in London was living with a 101-year-old English woman in her Victorian house. In exchange for free lodging, I prepared her lunch and afternoon tea twice a week. I saw her dying slowly. It changed my view of life. After London, I lived in Seoul, South Korea, for two and a half years before returning to Canada in November 2016. The following year, I returned to Europe, and since then I have been traveling regularly for art-related work. Many of these travels have been eye-opening. Once, at 3 a.m. in Udine, Italy, I briefly spoke with an Argentinian man who was standing with an Afghan man on my bus trip to Romania. Later, I reunited with the Argentinian, who told me the Afghan had walked for four months to escape the Taliban. Hearing this broke my heart. I deeply value such unexpected encounters. I have taught art to college students in Canada and England, which gave me strong social skills. I have also taught art and dance to young children (ages 5–9) and to adults, including seniors. I am naturally curious about many aspects of life and people. I work well with children and animals, and I offer improvisation workshops for both children and adults. I am good at organizing and tidying. I can prepare healthy vegetarian food. I don’t smoke or use drugs, and in general I avoid doing things that might harm my body or mind.
