Travel buddy
Hi, I’m Jade. I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand and I’m so excited to be here on a working holiday visa! When I go on holiday, I usually prefer spending my time in nature to visiting cities, although I absolutely love a good museum or bookstore. Back in the U.S., I always enjoyed taking road trips to national parks and camping, and I look forward to exploring along the same lines here. I also really enjoy reading and just got an ereader so I can still access library books while I’m away from my home library network. In the U.S., I most recently worked as a line cook at a brunch restaurant. I handled a lot of the ordering/inventory and training new staff as well, and I’m very comfortable multitasking and communicating about how to achieve goals as a team. Before I came to New Zealand, I was living at a housing cooperative in Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA). I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first moved in, but it ended up being an incredible experience that introduced me to so many cool people and a new sense of the importance and benefits of community that has honestly changed my life (and made me even more intrigued by Workaway!). I’m a pretty laid back person, but I also take my commitments seriously. I’m definitely the person in my friend groups who will do the footwork to make a wistful conversation about going camping together a reality. Something I really liked about the co-op was the way that people were open to new experiences, whether it was going to cut down a Christmas tree at -10 degrees Fahrenheit or trying a new type of six person ping pong where you run around the table as you hit the ball. That’s definitely a mindset that I value and something I will bring to both the work I do and the social aspect of workaway. I like to think I have a good work ethic, and I take pride in my results. Sometimes I can be a little quiet at first, but the goofy side of my personality will come out as I get to know people more. Last, I love animals, so if you have any that will definitely be a plus in my book.
